After 3 months of use, it seems to be doing its job, which is why I wanted to share this roll bar fence DIY to help other furbaby parents who are running out of low-cost options. A panel should take around 15-30 mins to paint, depending on how precise you are. This is the slowest method but also the simplest, as you only need a brush.

Oscillot® is fast-becoming the first choice for cat owners in Australia, & across the world, because there are no wires, no cages & no netting, it is cat friendly, unobtrusive & can turn most fences into a cat proof fence within just a few hours. Cats, on the other hand, have very different abilities, as they are able to stop their forward momentum and hold on to many surfaces with their claws before continuing their climb. This allows them to pause and search for the “path of least resistance” as they approach the top of the fence, calculating their next move. Many cat-proof fence roller systems have been adapted from the original coyote rollers with this in mind, and now there are several options available exclusively for use with cats. The Best Cat Fence and Coyote Rollers Plus Other Deterrents You Can Buy Right Now Easiest to Install – BSN SafTop Fence Guard The flat roof of this school was a favourite destination for pupils - the non-aggressive Roller installation solved the problem, preventing the youngsters from attempting to climb onto the roof and potentially injuring themselves. Roller Barrier Providing Safe Flat Roof Anti Climb Protection If your fence panel is still wet when you start painting, the paint won't adhere properly to its surface. This can cause unsightly bubbles, and the paint simply won’t do its job properly.

Cat-proofing your yard has long been considered too difficult... Until Now...

Lastly, we’ll include containment kits. The name sounds intimidating but fears not. It’s just a fence extension that curves inward preventing your cat from climbing over. Start by filling your sprayer's container with paint. Switch on your sprayer and start in the top right or left corner. To finish your fence prep, give the fence a rub down with sandpaper to get rid of any rough areas. This is not so important for rough-sawn fence panels, but if you have a smoother timber fence, i.e. a slatted fence, then make sure to rub down for improved adhesion. Next, get your roller — start at the top of a section and work across and down. This will help smooth out any drips that might land below where you are painting.

They are great last-ditch deterrents for larger, smarter animals – dogs, coyotes, and cats. Turn to these when your animal has outwitted all the other cheaper options above. Make sure you keep as much tension as possible on the whole thing to keep the PVC up and spinning free above the fence. Because rollers have been around for at least 20 years for use with wild animals like coyotes, there are several DIY plans and tutorials that use materials that can be found at most hardware stores. Building your own DIY cat fence rollers may be a more cost-effective option, however, it also relies on the use of materials that were not necessarily intended for this type of application. While some have success with a DIY roller system, the use of these types of materials may result in unexpected results and ultimately reduce the effectiveness or durability of homemade rollers.

When installed properly on most fence types, reports suggest that commercially available cat-proof fence roller systems tend to have a 80-90% rate of effectiveness for most cats. Cats all have unique personalities and abilities, and while some cats may try to climb over the fence and give up after a few attempts, others might try over and over again until they find a way over and out. Rollers tend to be best suited for cats who are less athletic or persistent. Additional modifications can be made to your existing fence to increase effectiveness for more persistent cats, such as installing spans of polycarbonate material along the top of the fence in addition to the rollers or increasing the overall height of your existing fence. Polycarbonate is a type of clear plastic sheeting that cats are not able to get their claws into, making it even more difficult to scale the fence.

Did you know that if an intruder injured themselves while climbing over anti climb spikes fixed to your walls, or fences, you could find yourself being prosecuted?

If you’re a dog owner, you know that dogs have an amazing sense of smell and a wonderful curiosity about everything happening outside their own fenced yards. If your dogs are anything like mine, they thoroughly investigate every inch of the yard and even try to push the boundaries as often as they can. Enter this roll bar fence DIY & my Dad to the rescue. FYI we’re not a professional builders, just dog owners that needed a solution and this totally helped us with our problem.

Perhaps the biggest advantage of a hidden cat fence for any cat lover is the fact that the control panel and cat collars can easily be taken to a new property, which only requires the installation of new boundary wire – removal of the installation from the house you’re leaving is simple and leaves not trace. This is a very different process to that involved in removing a traditional cat fence barrier which is neither swift nor simple. Comparing cat fencing costs The most important point to remember when installing Oscillot® is that your cat needs to be jumping from the ground to the top of the fence in a single motion with no help on the way up in the form of "ladders or platforms". "Ladders and platforms" are objects next to the fence such as trees, trellis, sheds and garden beds etc.The good news is that there are several outdoor containment options available specifically for cats. There are a lot of factors to consider when determining which type of cat-proof solution will work best for your cat, and most cat fence containment systems will fail to work reliably on all cats. The important thing to keep in mind when deciding which option will work best for you is not necessarily, “Does the system work for all cats?” but rather, “Does it work for MY cat?” One option that is commonly considered as a cat-proof fence solution is a roller system. Make sure to put them snug against each other as you go along the top of the fence. Each space between rollers is a weak point for cats or coyotes to take advantage of. You can also use other features like the spikes shown above around these junctions to protect them further. Once you have a clear space around your fence, think about covering the surrounding vegetation (essential if spray painting) and laying down dust sheets or plastic sheeting along the bottom of the fence to catch any paint drips. With no spikes to cause injury, many local authorities now specify this versatile anti-climb device as the anti-climb system of choice for use in and around: schools, public & historic buildings, parks & gardens, car parks and many more locations.
