It appears like each drum beat and thump take their own sweet time in delivering the meaty-impact before moving to the next beat.

The ER4SR is definitely more resolving than the ER2SE, and this includes the midrange: the low-level details are more accessible to the listener on the ER4SR. Another thing is the double flange tips which are much more comfortable than the triple flange, only come included with the XR variant. And both feature a proprietary MMCX connector (with a small notch build in to prevent the IEMs from rotating around the cable). So my dear Massdrop Pluses developed a driver imbalance on the right side, coinciding with this lovely thread providing an excuse to get more gear.

The ER2’s carry forward Etymotic’s traditional deep-insertion ear tip and earpiece design motif (more on this later), but they introduce slightly revised (and nominally more comfortable) versions of the firm’s signature triple-flange ear tips. The ER20XR seems more subdued, compared to the more lively and exciting FDX1, however they do pack a pretty impressive dynamic punch when needed. However, if you’re looking for a similar sound with more bass, both the ER2 and ER4 have XR variants, which have a greater emphasis on the bass without becoming overly bassy. In general I'd say I enjoy the sound of the 2XR over the 2SE (I like bass and they're pretty close to identical in every other way), so I'll focus my impressions on those.I really hope they put out another iteration with dynamic drivers trying to further increase the speed, etc. Some people may find it lacking, unenergetic, or dry, especially for those people who loves elevated presence. Then, on ‘Cecile I’ observe the deft way that both ER2 earphones define and delineate differences in textures and timbres between the bowed cello and pizzicato acoustic bass heard on the track (there is enough overlap between the ranges of these instruments that their voices can become muddled through some earphones, but this was not a problem at all for the Etymotic ER2’s). I remember the FXT90s being my first fancy IEMs when I was a noob, and trying very hard to love them because of all the rave reviews online. The Starfield may offer a better technical performance, but the timbre and tonal characteristics of ER2s are far superior.
