If your butane lighter is not working after being refilled with fuel, there are a few potential causes. When submerged with the cap on, the inside of the lighter remained completely dry and lit immediately after shaking off the excess water. As marketed, the case is waterproof.

There are two versions of this lighter: one comes with a bottle opener, the other with duct tape. I tested the duct tape version. UST Wayfinder Lighter And of course, a word of warning, you are playing with fire here, so please refill the butane lighter at your own risk. 1. The Pin What You Need Yes, it is a good idea to shake the canister of butane before filling a lighter. This will mix up any sediment that has settled at the bottom of the container and ensure that you get a consistent fuel flow into your lighter. After gaining access to this hole, you will need to widen it so your refill valve can fit correctly inside. When deciding what size drill bit is needed, ensure that whatever diameter tool used should not exceed more than slightly wider than the width measurement taken from previous steps when noting down measurements before drilling begins. The Mini BIC’s only downside is it’s not wind-resistant. A simple windscreen can usually solve this problem though. Fill the lighter with butane while keeping it upside down. A classic-size Bic lighter takes about 30 seconds to fill. Although, if this is your first time, I recommend you put less, as you will see in step 5. Step 5:

The Wayfinder Lighter from UST, like the UCO Torch, is a butane lighter with piezo-electric ignition. This way, too much fuel won’t escape the chamber once filled, as an airtight seal is necessary for this purpose. Step 3: Pre-filled lighters are less hassle and cheaper upfront. You don’t have to buy fuel or fill the lighter yourself. At the base of your Bic lighter’s fuel chamber, there is a rubber divider typically kept in place to keep it isolated and separated from other chambers for extra safety. Piezo-electric lighters— like the UCO and UST — use a spring-loaded hammer to hit a piezo-electric crystal and create an electrical charge.

Empty lighters you must buy fuel for and fill yourself. They are refillable and thus may work out to be cheaper in the long-run. The two types of fuel we used were butane for the UCO Stormproof Torch and UST Wayfinder Lighter and Zippo lighter fluid for the Zippo Matte Lighter. (The Mini Clipper can also be refilled with butane.) Type of Fuel: Butane vs. Lighter Fluid When inserting your refill valve, slight agitation around its circumference may be needed with a razor so as not to damage any wiring present in the interior area of your Bic lighter. Now, I don’t mean this lighter doesn’t light consistently. It does. The Zippo was the third most reliable lighter in that regard, lighting 175 out of 200 times.Using a drill bit or something similar, you could make small openings into the divider to allow room for your valve and still be strong enough to keep it from collapsing when applying pressure of fuel is added in the fifth step of this process. Step 5: This method is more straightforward but can get messy. The video above will show this process. Step 1: This step should be done carefully with caution as any mishandling could cause significant damage or, worse, loss of life if there is ever an explosion when in use. If you use lighters excessively and need to replace them, you should consider purchasing a refillable lighter.
