After the Mission Masters set Hasbro started making figures for the Batman: The Animated Series spin-off TV show, Batman Beyond. A Batman related show set in the future with even darker themes than it’s parent show. Batman Beyond starred a new Batman, Terry McGinnis, who was mentored by an aging Bruce Wayne. Bruce Wayne’s Car: If this were a Hot Wheel or something, I might like it more. As part of a line with much more interesting vehicles and characters, it’s just kind of bland. Hoverbat: A little over-designed for a vehicle that should be relatively simple, I like this more because of the art on the box. Two-Face looks so mad to have been captured, while Batman has an expression of annoyance as if he missed his exit on the freeway. Amazing. Ground Assault Batman: Kind of digging those colors, and the large bat-shaped plate on his chest. Random glider/board accessory could be for anything, so otherwise it’s relatively nondescript.

High Wire Batman: Might have made more sense as a Robin figure, because circus and what not. Cool accessory and play action, and I kind of dig those yellow highlights on the suit. Batmobile: Sleek and classic, this is about as perfect an Animated Batmobile as you could hope for. I only like this design, without full on loving it, as there are other Batmobiles I prefer over this one. Still, it’s awesome and perfectly fits the aesthetic of the show.Hasbro also released figures for the direct to video Batman Beyond movie, Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker. The figures included in this set were Golden Armor Batman, Gotham Defender Batman, Gotham Knight Batman, Rapid Switch Bruce Wayne and Arkham Assault Joker. Ultimate Batman: Even when the batteries die and the eyes and Batsymbol no longer light up, this will still be a stunning, no-frills Batman figure. Can’t beat that, can you? Action Figures 10-1 The New Batman Adventures set led into a different toy line from Hasbro called Mission Masters, which had a total of four toy series. It also led to some interesting action figure and tech mashups. Of course, not all of the 90s Batman toys were winners. There were some real stinkers out there, like that weird “Water Blast” Batman that just sprayed water everywhere. And let’s not forget about the infamous “Legends of the Dark Knight” line, which gave us such gems as “Zipline Batman” and “Skywing Batman.” The Joker: Genuinely love the gas mask, and the gun that squirts water is a nice touch. Something about this just seems a bit plain and uninspired, though, even if I can’t quite put my finger on it.

Infrared Batman: Love the look of the suit itself, as the deep red as kind of an update of the Batman: The Movie poster (which I think I’ve said about another figure in another line). The accessory is just kind of whatever, not moving the needle one way or the other. Description: Wearing many names – the Dark Detective the World’s Greatest Detective, the Caped Crusader – Bruce Wayne has battled tragic foes like The Joker, The Penguin, Mr. Freeze and so many more. Clayface: Ol’ Matt Hagen here is big, lumpy, and kind of gross, as he should be. Excellent sculpt, and the firing mace hand is just flat-out awesome. While as a kid we would understandably gravitate more toward the hero figures, I think as adults we can appreciate a truly well-made villain all the more. Especially when it’s as cool as Clayface here. The first Batman Beyond action figure line made a similar mistake to The Batman Animated series toy lines. Their figures showcased many different versions of Batman Beyond, but didn’t include many of the other characters from the series. The first set included designs like Manta Racer Batman, Lightning Storm Batman, Thunderwhip Batman, and Hydro Force Batman.The Jokermobile: The only thing I dislike about this is that it never appeared in the series, because this is 100% something Joker would have driven around in. And the launching smile missile is simply perfect. DC’s early ‘90s event books are dramatically underrated, and the Eradicator is part of arguably the biggest stories from that era—the Death of Superman. The Eradicator was one of the four replacements after Kal’s climactic battle with Doomsday, and while his design was a little goofy (the cataract glasses are actually super endearing), McFarlane Toys does an amazing job of translating the comic look to the 3D real world. This figure looks great and, as a Gold Label figure, should be of higher quality than usual. This will look nice posed or in a box for the Superman fan in your life.

Bruce Wayne: Imagining Bruce Wayne donning his Batman costume only for it to be this super bulky outfit makes me laugh. The fact that the boots and leggings are the same color, so it looks like he’s wearing jammies, makes it all the funnier.The Batman: The Animated Series action figure line had a bit of a confusing history with the move to Hasbro, the multiple spin-off television series, and the many repainted figures. No name strikes terror into the hearts of Gotham’s citizens quite like the Joker. In a city overrun with larger-than-life criminals, the always-laughing villain stands alone. A complete psychopath with no moral compass whatsoever, the Joker, whose real name and identity remain completely unknown, is characterized by his chalk-white skin, green hair and a permanent rictus grin stretched across his face. But there isn’t a single thing funny about this particular clown, who only finds humor in the suffering of others. Figures sold separately.Combat Belt Batman: The top three are going to be practically interchangeable. This Batman has a perfect suit, tons of cool accessories, and a clean, classic paint job. I honestly can’t think of a single thing I’d change. Batcave Command Central: While playsets can be relatively hit or miss, this one definitely hits. Multiple levels of play, including facades for Wayne Manor, the Batcave, and the exit for the Batmobile, and it even looks like it can fold up for ease of storage and transportation. Can’t go wrong with any of that. However, Shane isn't just a movie guy. He also loves video games. Super Mario Sunshine, The Last of Us Part 1 and 2, and Batman: Arkham City are some of his favorites. Music plays a big part in his life as well. Given that Shane's a big horror fan, you might be surprised to learn that he's a pop guy. Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo, Dua Lipa, The Jonas Brothers, and Demi Lovato play on repeat while he's writing. The company then created a set to coincide with the animated movie Batman: Mask of the Phantasm. At that point though, it felt as if the overall toy line was starting to lose steam as the company was using basically the same mold for many of their Batman: The Animated Series figures especially when it came to the principal character, Batman.
