She didn’t beg anyone to love her, and she didn’t shame herself for wanting to be loved more than the average person. She was twenty-fucking-two, and I was thirty-four with two young daughters, and I had no business putting my hands on her. From the nose and chest hairs, to the innie talk, to the chip dust, to the swear jar and the increase fee on Jesus’s day, to the wiggling of their noses, I ADORED THEM!

Grumpy/sunshine tropes aren’t really something I usually read but I decided to give it a chance, and I was actually surprised with how much I enjoyed this book. they were so relaxed and opened up to each other so easily, it was impossible not to get sucked in and just absorb the chemistry that was happening.When they had their mini breakup, Dex was all huffy puffy and angry and he took it out on the athletes he was training by making everything harder and harsher. They find vulnerability and connection so easily- and soon the safety to lean into love, when it has both hurt them. Dex is recently divorced and ex-military, a father to two (scene stealing) little girls, and he’s sworn off any romantic attachments- he’s got a bad taste in his mouth for commitment thanks to his failed marriage. Winnie and Dex “love” story was hardly romantic or swoony and I wasn’t convinced of their love at all.
