Description

Beheaded by Vikings in 869, his head was miraculously reunited with its body by a ghostly wolf, and his sainthood assured. Over 200 years has passed and we're still brewing in Suffolk; everything from traditional cask ales to stouts, lagers, pale ales and IPA's. Western Zeph, a West Coast-style IPA is brewed with Godiva and Harlequin Hops, plus CF 184, a new hop that doesn’t yet have a name. A nod to the legend of our very own St Edmund, beheaded by Vikings in 869, his head was miraculously reunited with its body by a ghostly wolf, and his sainthood assured. Made using only the finest ingredients, and drawing on centuries of brewing expertise, this range of fresh new beer flavours celebrates Britain’s wild, eccentric past with consistent hoppy brilliance pour after pour.

The story of St Edmund tells of the brave King Edmund who was killed by Danish invaders on 20 November 869 after refusing to denounce his Christianity. Our hometown of Bury St Edmunds takes its name from King Edmund, the original Patron Saint of England and King of East Anglia. It may not be reproduced in any way whatsoever without the prior consent of Waitrose Limited nor without due acknowledgement. Finally, the beer is “dry hopped” – the addition of fresh hops prior to packaging – with Centennial, Galaxy and Mosaic. Our bins hold 18-24 bottles of wine or Champagne or 2-3 cases of lager when filled with ice and water. Brand new in the legendary craft beer range from Greene King, Level Head Session IPA is quite simply a perfectly executed, delicately balanced, sessionable 4% IPA. Subterranean is an oatmeal stout based on a recipe dating from 1926 and takes its name from tunnels that once led from the local abbey to the brewery. A nod to the legend of our very own St Edmund, this hoppy, sessionable IPA invites you to keep it steady, just like Eddie.

The story of St Edmund tells of the brave King Edmund who was killed by Danish invaders on 20 November 869 after refusing to denounce his Christianity. Greene King has launched four new beers that reflect the brewery’s 200 year-old history along with the far older history of its home town, Bury St Edmunds. Dry hopped with galaxy, contennial and mosaic, the aroma is balanced between tropical and grapefruit notes, finished off with a subtle bitterness for ultimate sessionability.
