this review is posted now!! which is good b/c i definitely haven't hit my talking-about-how-much-i-hate-this-book quota. find it here: https://emmareadstoomuch.wordpress.co... There are different kind of fathers. Those who love unconditionally, those who love on condition, and those who never love at all. Which would you say he is?”

Alosa has long, fiery red, curly hair with sun-kissed skin. Riden referred to Alosa as beautiful to Kearan and Enwen before assigning them to guard her in the brig of the Night Farer. Her eye color depends on the amount of Siren abilities she has in her possession. The more power she has the bluer her eyes, but when she has no more power her eyes are green. The only thing I can say I liked about this book is the audiobook. The audiobook is actually excellent. This book doesn't deserve such an amazing audiobook, but yet it has one. If I weren't listening to the audiobook I doubt I would have actually ended up finishing this. It was hard as it was to actually follow through and listen to the audiobook. Reading this book physically would have been pure hell. I'd recommend this book! It's not an omg-new-favorite, but it's really enjoyable and definitely not disappointing. I wanted a fun, entertaining pirate-based story and I got exactly that (and a little more). I really liked the strong female protagonist and the clever and charming male protagonist, and the story was very entertaining. If you're looking for a captivating adventure on the sea, look no further! As was to be expected, this book was a roaring good time. It also got me out of my mini reading slump. I will admit I love a sassy character, and Alosa could definitely give Celaena Sardothien a run for her money when it comes to wits and brutality.

Firstly, the supernatural elements seemed to manifest from nowhere and felt out of place. I got no sense for the first half of the book that anything fantastical was going to happen, and the sudden introduction of it without warning was really jarring. To be fair, I did like that the author considered what being a siren would mean for non-het people. Sirens historically are women who affect all men, but Alosa's charms do not work on gay men. Sent on a mission to retrieve an ancient hidden map―the key to a legendary treasure trove―seventeen-year-old pirate captain Alosa deliberately allows herself to be captured by her enemies, giving her the perfect opportunity to search their ship.

How did Daughter of the Pirate King end?

I will probably continue on with the duology, mostly because I want to visit the home of the sirens. I think a young Meg would have enjoyed this a bit more. Riden doesn’t return to the room until late, thinking she’s already asleep. He can tell she wants him to go to sleep, which makes him suspicious. She finally has to sing her siren song to make him obey. She learns what he wants in life is love and acceptance. Then she makes him forget it all happened. Alosa feels a burn in her chest and needs to be replenished. Only the ocean can do it. And then it always tries to get her to give in to it, which she can’t risk right now. She’s mostly human, but her mother was a siren.

With this new knowledge of her father's true nature in mind, she decides to set out on her own to claim the booty for herself and her crew. She feels no more allegiance to him. However, this being said, it took me a LONG time to get through this. It wasn't really drawing me in. I didn't find anything super compelling about it. She single-handedly took what could have been a fun romp across the seven seas (except not seven seas, because this is a fantasy world supposedly, although we have nO WORLD BUILDING TO SHOW FOR IT) and made it into what it is. Which is romance. Just one hundred percent pure unadulterated romance. The second ability is being able to "read a person’s emotions, but this ability does not require nourishment from the sea. It is something [she] innately possess.” She is unable to read minds but she sees colors that represent their emotions. As a child, she would practice using this skill on her father's men. (Red is the hardest color to interpret). This ability does not require any sea water to use, but using this power too much will cause her to lose herself to her Siren side. And yes!! She’s still half-siren, which I think is still very cool! How do her abilities help her learn more about herself and the people she loves? Riden and Alosa's relationship was nothing if not beautiful. I love that it wasn't love at first sight, but more of a slow burning, hate-turned-love passion that took FOREVER to become something more, but once they finally do admit their true feelings, my god! I was dying inside from the wait! I felt my heart bursting from my chest with every interaction between the two of them, and I couldn't handle the slowness of their attraction at some points. I like that through even this, Alosa never lets her guard down as the Captain of her ship, and Riden respects her for it, if not making her more attractive to him in the process. Her fearless leadership is prevalent to all other emotions, and he can't get enough. And neither could I! This was such a sweet love story to add to the rugged pirate story. I fell in love right with the characters. Alosa is the daughter of the pirate king Kalligan. She's his only child (the only one he's claimed), which makes her very valuable. What people don't know is that she isn't a spoiled and pampered pirate princess - she is a cunning and dangerous pirate. When her father sends her on a mission to retrieve a part of a map, Alosa's plan is get captured willingly by a young pirate lord and search their ship for the piece of the map that the former pirate lord of that ship had. The captain, Draxen, is every bit as cruel and ruthless as his father was. But Alosa doesn't expect to be distracted by the captain's first mate and younger brother, Riden. Finding the piece of the map isn't going to be the difficult part of the task - getting around Riden will be. Much more elaborate and colorful version than the first book, I never expected that it would turn out this good. (*I was expecting a movie script – Thankfully it is not but it could be turned into a movie.) This may seem like an odd tactic, but Alosa knows once she is aboard the enemy ship she will have ample opportunity to search for the map.

Aye, Captain." He lifts the tricorne off my head and runs his fingers through my hair. "I'll sail with you anywhere. I don't care where we go it what we do as long as I'm with you My best friend : Okay, that book doesn't sound appealing to me anymore. I would rather read something else than that book. Hey, let's just watch a movie at my house! Alosa is daughter to the Pirate King- a notorious captain who owns all of the seas and controls those within it... as well as some on land. ALOSA WAS A GREAT female lead. She was everything that a badass pirate should have been but still had a strong feminine feel. The author did a good job showing not telling how strong and cut-throat Alosa was but I also loved how she was kind of vain and obsessed with her clothesNot only is she a badass pirate, but the author managed to make her even more awesome by making her a half-siren feminist.
