Gorilla” was a track that really grew on me, it reminds me of her incredible stage presence during her live performances; of being at ease like she’s always been destined to be there. Another standout for me has to be “Heart on Fire”, you can feel the atmosphere building like a rising in your chest, it’s evident that this soulful music comes from the heart. It features a "wall of percussion" resembling "a marching band, West African drumming and rolling breakbeats".

On the minimalist album opener, "Angel", Simz analyses her rise to stardom with a " Prince-style pun" on master ownership. From the patter of drums and looping coos that open the album on “Angel,” you’d be forgiven for expecting lullabies or love songs; but with her aim trained on the suits, Simz is unsparing: “They don’t care if your mental is on the brink of something dark/As long as you’re cutting somebody’s payslip/And sending their kids to private school in a spaceship,” she raps in a tight volley, before asking, “Did I stutter? If 2021’s Sometimes I Might Be Introvert catapulted Simz into the big leagues, crashing into the top 5 of the albums charts, collecting Mercury Music Prize, Mobo, Ivor Novello and Brit Award wins and earning her the biggest live audiences yet in the UK and Europe yet, NO THANK YOU is yet another delicious left field turn for 29-year old Simbiatu Ajikawo.

Dylan Green of Pitchfork noted how "fully relaxed" Simz sounds on track two, "Gorilla", which samples a Jurassic 5 bassline. The album received critical acclaim from music critics, who praised its emotional depth, smooth production, and Simz's lyrical quality. The songs on No Thank You have long instrumental codas that are highlighted by Inflo's "lushly" and "inventive" arrangements filled with choral vocals and "swelling" strings. Chances are you've already heard it, but if not, we can confirm that it's a genuinely brilliant set that more than lives up to the dizzy heights of its Mercury Prize-winning predecessor, 2021's Sometimes I Might Be Introvert. The album alludes to challenges faced releasing music with a tone of self-reflection but this album feels stronger than ever, with her talent shining through each track on the album despite the obstacles and healing that took place. On the "beautifully warped soft soul" of track nine, "Who Even Cares", Simz sings about on focusing her eyes towards the future with a subtle auto-tuned vocal.
