Description

I love a good ghost story. I practically worship a great ghost story. Sadly, Altar is neither. It has its moments, and it's not a complete waste of time to watch, but in my opinion it started with all the makings of a truly interesting story and mixed it all up into a batch of...mixed up. As the strange events start to become the norm, Meg wants to call in a paranormal investigator and eventually persuades her mum to let one into the house. Investigator Donelly finds an occult floor design in the attic and a weird hook on the wall, which used to be part of a pulley system to kill sacrificial offerings. Meanwhile dad is becoming increasingly obsessed with the history of the place and sees the previous female occupant in his wife, and this sets off a frenzy of sculpting that leads to our ‘happy’ couple having a rather physical argument culminating in Alec raping his wife.

Amulet – 2020 – When a homeless ex-soldier is invited to stay with a young woman and her dying mother, begins to suspect their decaying London home is housing something unnatural. Romola Garai ( The Hour) and Imelda Staunton ( Harry Potter) are among the stars of this 2020 British supernatural thriller. It’s also worth noting that Garai wrote and directed. Hulu or streaming rental. My God you have a great cast - Matthew Modine, Olivia Williams, Antonia Clarke and Steve Oram. All of which, I've seen acting better in lesser roles than this. Give them something to work with and push them a little. They can handle it. Oller, Jacob (October 10, 2018). "Why The Haunting of Hill House Proves Novels Belong on Netflix". Paste . Side guide

When Meg Hamilton (Olivia Hamilton) is asked to renovate Radcliffe Hall she moves her family, including artist husband Alec (Matthew Modine) into the house while she works on it. As she discovers more about the house though including the revelation of a secret room in the attic things gradually push Meg to decide to move out of the house. With her husband’s behaviour become ever stranger she is forced to stay one more night, but will it be a night too far?

Within the first 10 minutes of The Haunting of Radcliffe House (a.k.a. Altar, which is a much less foreboding title) it would take somebody who had lived in a cave all of their life not to notice the three obvious plot points lifted from other (better) horror movies, and if you’ve never seen Hellraiser, The Shining or The Amityville Horror then a) what are you doing with your life and b) you’d be better off watching those than you would this film. That is because The Haunting of Radcliffe House does not have an original thought or idea contained within its paper-thin script or uninspiring direction, and considering the talent involved and how saturated the supernatural horror film market is at the moment it’s not unreasonable to have expected a little more. The Altar is a ghost story in the classic tradition. Meg (Olivia Williams), Alec (Matthew Modine) and their children move in to a decrepit Yorkshire mansion whilst Meg restores it for the owner. Over the next couple of months the haunted nature of the house becomes apparent, with the usual banging sounds, slamming doors and ethereal appearances. Most of the film relies heavily on Olivia Williams and she does an OK job, with Matthew Modine limping in towards the end. The sound effects are inadequate, the special effects are those you see in U.S. TV serials maybe ten or fifteen years ago. The effects do not scare you as most horror films do, nor do they provide atmosphere to the film. Creepy noises and strange sounds abound. Ghosts make their appearance early and often and in various forms. In an interesting way the form of the spirit seemed to be a function of the spirits intent, a refreshing take amongst the tried and true ghost forms that are used.Overall The Haunting of Radcliffe House is a decent enough spook fest, which is a bit too much of a ‘best of haunted house films’ compilation than an original masterpiece to be particularly memorable going forwards, but it’s still worth seeing despite that for the good performances of the cast, especially the female cast members. A young family move to an isolated house which the mother has been hired to restore only to discover that presences still linger casting a hold over her artist sculpturing husband.

I sat down to watch the 2014 movie here in 2019 solely because it was a horror movie and because I hadn't seen it before. I can't claim to have ever heard about the movie, nor did I know who starred in it prior to finding it by sheer random chance.Altar (aka The Haunting of Radcliffe House) – 2015 – A family moves into a beautiful Victorian home with the goal of renovating it, but what they don't realize is that the previous owner murdered his wife – and they may not be entirely alone on the property. Tubi, Roku Channel, Pluto, or streaming rental. Harry Price Ghost Hunter Later in their stay, the doctor's wife, the haughty Mrs. Montague, and her companion Arthur Parker, the headmaster of a boys' school, arrive to spend a weekend at Hill House and help investigate it. They, too, are interested in the supernatural, including séances and spirit writing. Unlike the other four characters, they do not experience anything supernatural, although some of Mrs. Montague's alleged spirit writings seem to communicate with Eleanor.
