I’ve tried a few times but I can never seem to get it to line up with the chapter ring. Looks like Seiko had ideas to troll us and decided to preserve one of the SKX’s more… notable traits. The case has a mineral crystal (Hardlex). No, it’s not a sapphire crystal, likely to keep the cost down, but the mineral crystal will do the job well also. It is placed in between a Sapphire crystal and a regular glass crystal. It won’t get scratches from regular usage, but if you accidentally hit it against a hard object, it will naturally be more prone to scratches than a sapphire crystal. So, what does this mean? Should we consider the new 5 Sports as successors to the SKX range? Well, that depends on what you’re looking for. There are several differences that could appear like an upgrade or a downgrade, depending on where you stand. You’ll spot them on the way down, I promise.

We are also able to offer an exchange to a different product if required, please specify this when returning your product. And on that note, let’s begin with the (inhale) Seiko 5 Sports SRPD51K1… “The case looks… decently-sized. And very familiar…” The Seiko 5 Sport series was first released in 1963, its creation aimed at providing stylish yet affordable automatic watches to the younger generation of the 60s. 50 years later, the Seiko 5 Sport has been reborn, each model showcasing the key traits of the original models as well as new, updated features. While legibility is beyond reproach on this watch, for the sake of clarity and reading accuracy, the seconds hand should feature a more traditional lollipop, on the proper end, so when you’re reading the watch in the deep recesses of your parents basement after a 12-hour Fortnite marathon, you’ll be able to tell exactly what time it is, without confusion—or math. There’s not a lot to dislike here. It’s highly legible, has moderate water resistance, great styling, and is eminently wearable. It’s not a go anywhere, do anything watch, but it can go most places and do most things. When purchasing a watch which has a metal bracelet with adjustable links, we will gladly adjust the watch bracelet to fit your wrist before sending the watch to you - free of charge!

That’s because it IS sized right as the case is 99% identical to the one found on the SKX. At 42.3 mm, it’s already on the smaller side for most diver-styled watches. The compact lugs and lug-to-lug distance of 45.7 mm further combine to make it feel like a 39 mm watch on the wrist instead. Oh, and since we’re on the subject of lugs, great news! They’re drilled on the new 5s. That’s another plus point in my books. As for the lug width, they’re the same as the SKX at 22 mm. Seiko arrived in watchmaking with the mindset to create a special segment targeted towards the Japanese watchmaking industry. This mindset has led to various creations and has broadened the world of watchmaking with Asian ingenuity. To further expand its watchmaking expertise, Seiko launched the Seiko Sportsmatic 5 in 1963, making it the first self-winding watch in Japan. Inspired by the Sportsmatic 5, the Seiko 5 Sports collection was launched in 1968. Since the launch of the collection, Seiko has kept the design uniform with very few changes to its DNA.

The bracelet is solid and feels rather robust, but naturally, at this price point, you can expect some rattle. Bezel We understand the importance of sizing the length of your watch bracelet or strap to provide the perfect fit. Our simple to use watch sizing guide allows you to measure the size of your wrist from the comfort of your own home. Introduced in 1968, the Seiko 5 Sports range was the brand’s idea of creating a sub-model of its popular ‘5’ range, which was launched in 1963 with the birth of the Sportsmatic. I know, it’s a tad confusing. In any case, the 5 Sports line was designed for more rigorous activities compared to the 5s. As a result, today’s 5 Sports are also targeted at buyers who intend to use them as stylish, affordable, mechanical beaters that can take a hit. If you require an extra large bracelet or you are in need of additional links these may be supplied at an additional cost.

The case has a length (lug-to-lug) of 45.7mm. Bear in mind that the Rolex Submariner 116610 has a lug-to-lug of 50.54 mm. Stainless steel case and bracelet. The case measures at 40 mm in diameter. A three-fold clasp with push-button release secures the bracelet. Home to a plethora of limited-edition timepieces, the Seiko 5 Sports collection is also brimming with brilliant collaborations. One such collaboration is with the streetwear brand, HUF. Launched with two iterations of the 5 Sports, the HUF Limited Edition is a vibrant addition to the collection. As for the hands, there are no changes here. The Seiko 5 Sports models appear to have retained the same broad, sword-shaped hours and stylized arrow minutes hands. As for the seconds hand, it’s the same story as well with its long counterbalance and lumed lollipop end. Of course, plenty of LumiBrite is to be found on the hour markers and hands but no lumed pip on the bezel, unfortunately. The new Seiko 5 sports collection took the world by storm and introduced a large range of new watches. One of the watches in the model collection is the Seiko 5 Sports srpd51k1 automatic watch. This is an affordable yet durable model that won’t let you down, and can take a beating.

The Seiko 5 was actually first released by the brand in 1963. As sports watches became more popular and people wanted watches that were suitable for swimming and handling harsh conditions and treatment. On the outer ring of the dial, we have the minute markers, which allow the dial itself to appear as more clean. Leather strap watches tend to fit without a problem for most wearers. However, watches fitted with metal bracelets often need adjusting to get the perfect fit.
