Description

For those who’ve not played the Undaunted series, here’s a brief overview of what you do on your turn: you play cards to send soldiers to their doom, repeatedly. That’s true, but everything is based on card play. During a turn, players draw four cards and determine one to use for initiative. Each card has an initiative value and whichever faction chooses the highest number goes first. The remaining three cards determine which units can perform a single-card action, flip from suppressed to ready, or hunker down (return to supply). The player with initiative plays all cards first, then the other player plays their cards. After this, the cycle continues with card draw and sacrificing one card to bid for initiative. The Soviet supply is looking rather healthy. This won’t last.

Stalingrad, 1942. Before you awaits a gruelling conflict in this cornerstone battleground. As the bullets and bombs tear the city asunder, only through wits and valour can you seize the cornerstone of the entire Eastern Front and change the course of history. Turns continue until one side has met its victory conditions and then we move on through the Campaign steps. Counting The Cost Undaunted: Stalingrad is a masterwork. With its peak production values, well-crafted storylines, historically accurate artwork, efficient storage solutions and clever combat system it presents a perfect blend of form and substance to represent this epic battle. Stalingrad was the bloodiest battle of the entire Second World War. The Undaunted system gives you an easy-to-grasp-and-play system that gives you the chance to get the feel of the events that unfolded in the Autumn/Winter of 1942/3 without getting bogged down in horrendous detail. But, while the mechanics themselves are first-rate, the theme of this game is one hell of a tough sell. Undaunted: Stalingrad is a faithful re-creation of the historical battle between Nazi Germany and Soviet Russia — a fight that lasted more than five months, and resulted in roughly 2 million combat casualties and hundreds of thousands of civilian deaths. Combatants literally crawled through damaged sewer pipes to beat each other to death with their frozen, empty rifles. Many then starved to death.

This continues as you fortify positions and ruin others. Every time we shattered a structure, we flipped the tile over and read the provided snippet of text that described the location and its importance. Losing Pavlov’s House was like losing a good friend. Stalingrad, 1942 was a pivotal battle in WWII. For over five months the German forces tried to oust the Soviet Red Army in bitter fighting before finally capitulating after being cut off and surrounded. Each of the 2 players has separate RPG style scenario booklets which give briefings on the battle before them dependent on the outcome of the previous battles. These develop over the course of 15 branching scenarios The mechanical system itself is brilliant, one that has been slowly refined since the release of Undaunted: Normandy in 2019. After drawing four cards, players must then use one of those cards to bid on who goes first. The remaining three cards can then be used to activate units. Pull two cards for the same unit, and that unit can both move and fire on your turn. Pull fog of war cards, on the other hand, and your troops will sit in their foxholes while the enemy passes them by. The result is a tense and tactical engagement that lasts anywhere from 30-60 minutes, tops.

Seconda Guerra Mondiale, fronte russo, Stalingrado. The consequences of the previous combat are then resolved. Depending on casualties taken up to 3 randomly-selected soldier cards will be removed. These are permamently removed from the campaign but do NOT rip them up! This is not a classic Legacy game but one that can be reset for further play. The cards have individual (fictitious) soldier names and these combatants are now gone. They are replaced, however, by Reserves. These new blood have their own identities but will have lesser abilities. io volevo iniziare con UN per il solo play, poi in Tana ho letto una discussione che mi ha fatto conoscere Warfighter e ho virato su quello. Devo dire che WF mi sta soddisfando al 110%, però ogni volta che leggo di UN mi attira sempre. Prima o poi... The growl of the bombers passing overhead echoed up and down the street, vibrating through Max Schroder’s body. He stared up at them, a phalanx of cruciform shapes crossing the leaden vault overhead, heading east towards the Volga.” An Unexpected LegacySimilarly the 129 map tiles not only represent a massive 72 tile depiction of the streets centred on Pavlov’s house on the edge of 9 January Square but also how those same streets are changed by being fortified or by being reduced to rubble. With Undaunted: Stalingrad, the designers have moved the action to Eastern Front, but this isn’t just a reskin. It’s a whole new game with a novel, dedicated campaign system. What’s in the Box Undaunted: Stalingrad is played in a number of scenarios, 15 in the full campaign, played over a section of the 72 tile depiction of an area South of Central Stalingrad around the 9 th January Square. There are many ways the campaign can go before culminating in one of 14 endings.

una gestione del mazzo intelligente, per cui è il giocatore a decidere cosa rischiare e cosa no, dove intensificare gli sforzi e dove no, quale strategia spingere e quale tralasciare; The casualty system is also brilliant and heartbreaking. I had a real connection with a rifleman and a machine gunner who were stars of my platoon. When I lost the rifleman after pushing too hard, and then drawing them after the mission when they were, sadly, in the casualty pile, I immediately regretted the decision to rush. Connection to specific characters began to occur over time. And the unique artwork by Roland MacDonald only added to the buy-in. It’s a system that forces you into endless awkward compromises. Riflemen, for example, are the only cards that can control tiles. But unless you have multiple matching cards you can’t both move and take control in the same turn. Instead, you have to risk them creeping forward, closing range and making them an easier target while allowing the enemy the chance to move up and contest the tile themselves. Most units have special actions, like engineers launching smoke or machine gunners laying suppressing fire, that you’ll have to balance with the need to move, shoot, and complete objectives. It’s an ongoing, fraught series of tough trade-offs.
