Unlike some memoirs, at no point did I feel like I was waiting to get to a more interesting bit, not one part felt drawn out. Despite disappointments along the way, Beth focused on achieving her ambitions and has become one of the country's most recognised footballers, male or female. Watching the Euros was the highlight of last summer and I’ve always rooted for England in every tournament since I was little (besides my own country Finland of course). I so appreciate Beth's vulnerability and honesty sharing her struggles and I think they will help a lot of people.

I’m just starting on my football journey myself (a bit late but it’s okay) and it was so interesting to read about how football players train and work and how much they sacrifice to reach the levels that they are at. I feel like I learnt a lot about professional football and what it entails and it has only increased my respect for professional footballers.Being able to read the player’s perspective of one the biggest turning points of my life just made me love everything that happened this summer more.

I also loved how open and honest she was with the harder side of football, and the harder side of stepping outside of your comfort zone. The very core message of this book (besides stressing the importance of women’s sports) is simply that there is more to life than just football, and that you never truly know what someone is dealing with despite succeeding on the pitch. Since the publication of this book June Mead has sadly passed away ( “If love could have saved you, you would have lived forever. I remember the days of, football is for boys, you can't play with us and I am pleased to see that sport is moving in the right direction, but there is still a long way to go. I also appreciate the effort Beth puts towards women’s football, and I love that her passion is so obvious and strong.I will admit I am not a football fan (male or female teams), but living and growing up in London, it is impossible to do or not take notice when England is playing. I really enjoyed reading this book, I could not put it down and stayed up far too late to finish it. I felt like I was having a conversation with Beth and she was just telling me her story sitting next to me.I loved when Beth told Vivianne Miedema that they’d both been nominated for a Ballon d'Or and Viv “stared impassively” and said “Yes, it’s my fifth time. You only have to look on social media to see the nonsense these young women have to put up with just because they want to play football. It was emotionally intense and draining at times, the off-the-pitch socialising and finding her place and being away from home, and she wanted to give up more than once.
