In terms of inputs and buttons, the right earcup is completely bare, with everything being stuffed on the opposing side. I imagine this is because of where much of the hardware is situated, but I will admit that things can feel somewhat overcrowded as a result. It’s easy to become confused when seeking out the mute button or volume control with just a blind touch, meaning I often found myself taking the headset off completely to adjust the settings. There are so many different gaming headsets on the market that it can be difficult to find the best option for your platform of choice. Sony has made this decision easier by launching its own official headset for the PS5.

Like before, Sony has chosen to use a leatherette material for the earcups that feels soft and supple and a plastic bridge that feels the slightest bit flimsy. Sure, going for silk and metal might’ve made them a bit cosier on the ears and sturdier, but the pleather stays relatively cool and comfortable after extended use and the plastic, while definitely not ideal, does keep the cost of the headset down.Mark Cerny has only ever said "hundreds" with Tempest without giving an exact number - I am sure pretty comparable or maybe even better than Microsoft's. It also supports spatial 3D audio for select PlayStation games, allowing the player to determine which direction sound is coming from within the game’s environment. Both devices use "custom-designed planar magnetic drivers", which we won't pretend to understand but appears to be a Good Thing. Apparently, the Pulse Explore earbuds will be one of the first sets to utilise this tech.

While the Pulse 3D headset is for the PlayStation 5, there are still plenty of other compatible devices, including your PC. If you plug in the USB dongle and turn on the headset, it should connect automatically so you can enjoy whatever game or streaming platform you choose. But most actual full range headphones with low OHMS are required to be wired, and typically need an external amp to properly drive them. There really aren’t any wireless headphones that allow uncompressed audio, I can’t think of any from Focal or seinheiser for instance.So, is it worth popping them on your wishlist for the next time they appear?
