Growing up in our house there was a constant discussion about which sauce is best. HP or Daddies. I believe this Daddies Brown Sauce is one of the best on the market and much better than its HP counterpart. If you’re enjoying a traditional English breakfast complete with sausage, bacon, fried eggs, baked beans, tomatoes, and toast, a splash of this brown condiment could be the perfect finishing touch—just try to avoid getting it in your tea (perhaps the only iconic British culinary treat you should avoid mixing with HP). Where To Find HP Sauce With a sweet tangy taste that is unparalleled in the brown sauce world, this is a must have store cupboard staple. Daddies Brown Sauce wins as best brown sauce hands down. It has a much better flavor, is more tangy and flavorful than HP sauce, and brings out the best of whatever you squeeze it on. Although the other brands are good, I recommend people try Daddies. You won't be sorry!

Sausage sandwiches are a popular meal in the UK, and HP Sauce is frequently used to add more character to each bite. Cottage pie (alternately known as Shepherd’s pie) is another comfort-food dish where HP Sauce can make a big difference, especially if you mix it into each layer of ground beef, carrots, onions, and potatoes, so the flavor seeps into everything and gives each ingredient a little something extra. You can even add it to Bolognese sauce to put a new spin on an ordinary bowl of spaghetti. For reasons of hygiene and safety, personal grooming products, cosmetics or items of intimate clothing cannot be returned. While it's not the cheapest option, it's a great change from the classic - boring - Heinz and a good way to support local businesses. To keep up with changing tastes and diversifying palates, HP Sauce has occasionally introduced new spins on its tried-and-true formula, starting with 1969's HP Fruity, a concoction that added oranges and mango chutney to the original tomato-and-malt-vinegar base. This variation was soon joined by HP BBQ Sauce, HP Pepper, and HP Reduced Salt & Sugar, a health-conscious take on the traditional recipe that was formulated in accordance with nutrition guidelines released by the UK government. But there are many different tomato sauces out there, and variety is the spice of life so I decided to put some to the test to see if anything can beat the king of ketchups. I compared Tesco's own-brand ketchup, the budget Daddies brand and Essex's own Tiptree tomato ketchup as well as Heinz's low sugar and salt version of the classic ketchup.

I hadn't had brown sauce for quite some time but had a sudden craving for it so bought a bottle of Daddies. I had completely forgotten how vinegary it is - quite a tingly sensation on the tongue! Brown sauce goes really well with sautés or chips and also sausages (veggie of course!). Heinz and Daddies are apparent competitors in the UK marketplace, with strong regional popularity in The Midlands, Wales, and The West Country. Daddies Ketchup trails the dominant market leader, the better-known Heinz Tomato Ketchup. [ citation needed]. Similarly, Daddies Sauce and HP Sauce are apparent competitors in the brown sauce market. From the information shared it may have been a reaction to the potassium sorbate which is widely used in some foods as a preservative and is part of the recipe for Daddies Tomato Ketchup in plastic bottles. This comes in a fancy glass bottle so I had high hopes for this ketchup, especially as it comes from our own county of Essex. Wilkin and Sons have been producing condiments in the Essex village of Tiptree for almost 250 years and while famous for their jams, they have turned their attention to ketchup.

When Garton trademarked the bottled condiment, he initially dubbed it "The Banquet Sauce." According to legend, when he learned that it was being served at a restaurant located within the Houses of Parliament, he renamed it "Garton’s HP Sauce" in 1895 as tribute, with the "HP" standing for "Houses of Parliament." Anna's ketchup rating - 9/10 - if I'm not careful I could eat that entire fancy glass bottle in one sitting. Most popular with customers in United States of America (USA), Italy, France, Canada, Spain, Germany, Netherlands, Portugal and Greece, but you can buy Daddies Brown Sauce for delivery worldwide.Apparently, this very special tomato ketchup (or sauce as it's also known) is made using a recipe that's been a Wilkin family favourite for over a hundred years, and I can well believe that. This tomato sauce was very good indeed. HP Sauce is comparable to A1 Sauce, a condiment that’s popular in the U.S., and which is most often used on steaks or burgers. You can use HP Sauce in a similar way, yet it’s versatile enough to be integrated into a variety of other well-known British recipes, too.

Keep HP British" was a rallying cry for many when the sauce's production moved from Birmingham, England, to Holland in 2006. / Christopher Furlong/Getty Images This article is about the brand name. For the plural of daddy, see Father. For the 1924 silent film, see Daddies (film). Daddies Tomato ketchup is automatically associated with Heinz, and to my embarrassment, I only realised painfully recently that the word 'ketchup' isn't actually Heinz's own branding. Ketchup is a word in itself, meaning 'a seasoned pureed condiment usually made from tomatoes' according to the Merriam-Webster dictionary. Although the iconic British brand is technically made in Holland now, it still accounts for about three-quarters of the brown sauce market in the UK, according to The Guardian. A 2016 survey revealed that HP Sauce was the most popular brand among UK citizens who voted to leave the European Union (EU). And while Brexit doesn’t seem to have impacted the brown sauce’s availability, it did prompt a 21 percent price hike. How To Use HP SauceEvery household needs a bottle of Daddies Brown Sauce in a kitchen cupboard somewhere; it is the perfect condiment if you want to get the best out of a bacon sandwich, English breakfast or a simple bowl of chips. Unwanted Food or Drink Products - Once supply conditions are broken, there are a number of factors outside of our control that can affect the quality of a product. Therefore perishable goods such as food and drink cannot be returned. During food shortages caused by World War I and later World War II, HP Sauce was marketed as a way to give a little oomph to leftovers and inferior cuts of meat, making it a fixture on dinner tables throughout the middle of the 20th century. And it wasn't enough that the sauce had a place in cupboards all over the nation—it soon started popping up in all corners of British culture. In 1940, John Betjeman—later named poet laureate of the UK from 1972 until his death in 1984—paid homage to the condiment in the poem " Lake District": "For me the plunge, the lake and limbs combine/I pledge her in non-alcoholic wine/And give the H.P. Sauce another shake." A spokesman for Heinz, which produces Daddies Tomato Ketchup, said: "We were very sorry to hear about Leanne's experience.

The brown sauce product, known as "Daddies Sauce", was launched in 1904, and the ketchup was launched in 1930. The brand is owned by the H. J. Heinz Company; it was bought as part of the acquisition of HP Foods from previous owner Groupe Danone in 2005. Production of Daddies was moved to Poland. But, as the adverts have told us for many years, "It has to be Heinz". Ketchup from anywhere else just doesn't taste right.
