Svaka čast autorici na maštovitosti! Do you think it’s fair that most of the kids don’t trust Skandar because he’s a spirit wielder? Why is it that Skandar’s friends do trust him? What do you think of the Peregrine Society members, and how do you think they feel about Skandar? Using textual evidence from the novel, describe why you think Skandar is or isn’t a trustworthy character. Who does Skandar trust?

Skandar and the Phantom Rider - Goodreads

A magnificent book. I raced through it – at turns enthralled, delighted, amazed. It’s everything I could have wanted and more. No doubt this book is going to fly.’ – Hannah Gold, author of The Last Bear The book’s cover is very exciting and is meant to draw readers in. Imagine a different cover and bring it to life. Alternatively, imagine and draw a cover (and title!) for the next book. As the thirteen year-olds kept on walking, there was a bedazzling unicorn display although Skandar didn't appreciate it as he was still conflicted about the Spirit Element. At the end of path, there was an enormous tree, the leaves were a mixture of different colours, deep red, cornfield yellow, emerald green, sea blue and a few whites. On both sides of the tree were giant walls with plants surrounding them, similar to the Great Barrier Reef. When the sentinels opened the entrance, Flo welcomed him and they all looked around at the armoured trees and towering treehouses. There were shouts from the bridges of treehouses, shouts of 'There she is!' and 'Look, new a silver!'. Flo then explained that the Eyrie was built around the Divide because it helped their unicorns reach their full potential.

Advance Praise

Robot Roz undertakes an unusual ocean journey to save her adopted island home in this third series entry. Epic, unforgettable and endlessly exciting, Steadman’s masterful sequel soars even higher than her debut. SKANDAR soars with magic, adventure, and pulse-pounding fun – the book equivalent of riding a rollercoaster while eating cake with fireworks exploding overhead!' – Andy Sagar, author of the Yesterday Crumb series

He was already dressed for his night shift at the gas station. She was relieved—some days she had to talk him into going to work, and some days there was no persuading him. But today was an easier day—the kind Kenna reported to Skandar in her letters, not one of the tougher ones she kept to herself. Skandar went to school that day and queued up, anxiously waiting to enter the exam hall. However, he was denied access by Miss Buntress and he waited in the corridor, crying. After a while, Miss Buntress came out and Skandar asked where the rider was and she said that she had left. Skandar then sat in the gym for a while and sobbed until Kenna came and took him home. They revised for a while but were eventually let in by their father.

Instructor O'Sullivan: A spirit wielder pin. Although you'll always be an honorary water wielder, of course. Steadman has a vast imagination, her world-building is a joy, the battle scenes are thrilling and her characters charm.' – The Times Children's Book of the Week Identify and discuss some of the good times that Skandar and his group of friends enjoy. When do these moments occur within the novel? Why do you think these moments are few and far between? Flo does tell Skandar: “‘I wish we could both be ordinary.’” (p. 416) He replies: “I think the truth is that nobody in the whole world is ordinary. . . . I think we’re better off trying to be as extraordinary as possible.” Do you agree with him, that nobody is ordinary? What types of characteristics might make someone seem extraordinary? Why do you think the author chose to include intermittent chapters from Kenna’s point of view? On the Mainland, the two siblings were close—but when Kenna sees Skandar and his unicorn, Scoundrel, together, she observes that they share “a bond that went deeper than brother and sister.” (p. 4) Talk about how Skandar’s choices throughout the story support this idea. If his actions are motivated by wanting to fix things for Kenna, why doesn’t he tell her the full story? Skandar and her mounted Swan and began a flight, which Skandar found quite uncomfortable. During the journey, they passed over the White Unicorn and saw many Mainlanders going to take helicopters to the Island. Skandar thought of Kenna, and this life she would never have, and also of writing to her if he opened the Hatchery Door.

Skandar and the Phantom Rider | Book by A.F. Steadman

My book of the year. Not since Harry Potter have I felt this excited about a series. Readers are sure to be clamouring for the next book. You’ll never look at unicorns the same way again, nor will you want to!’ – Dominique Valente, author of the Starfell series Skandar cares deeply for the rest of his Family, often worrying about his Father when he left for the Island and even more so when he left his sister Kenna. These worried frequently plagued him on the Island and he would often write letters. This would be made even worse after the Training Trial and into his second year when Skandar had lied about a lot that went onto the Island, though was somewhat remedied when Kenna herself was brought to the Island. Skandar was very slow to trust his Aunt Agatha Everhart as he initially knew little about her and then later found out she was the Executioner but he slowly got to trust her after she revealed much of her shared past with her sister Erika and how it is similar to his own with Kenna. This was complicated when Agatha was brought on to be Skandar’s Spirit instructor. Skandar is a teenage boy with muddy brown hair, white skin and hazel-brown eyes. His height is described to be on the shorter side. It is said that Skandar looks a lot like his sister Kenna, to the point he is mistaken for her twin even though Skandar is one year younger. For a mutation, Skandar has a Spirit Wielder's blaze on his arm.Dorian Manning, Hatchery President and head of the Silver Circle, arrived and talked to the Hatchlings about the Hatching and what to expect from the unicorns. He then told them how to find the correct egg among the many in the Hatchery Chamber, place your palm on the top of the egg, wait ten seconds, if nothing happens move to the next one, when you find the correct one, the horn will puncture your palm. After this, move to a Hatching cell. Dive into a world where unicorns are portrayed as never before with this magical middle-grade international bestselling series that has captured the world, perfect for fans of Harry Potter and Nevermoor.
