However, this is increasingly becoming less frequent when you consider the power of next-gen machines like the PS5 and Xbox Series X. Nearly 40 hours into the game, a bug occurred during a hero ops assignment (hands-off missions you send heroes off to do for rewards) where no character was assigned but the mission went ahead anyway. Agamottos’ Gaze is an especially good Skill card that generates two Heroism, redraws the last two attack cards you played, and gives you four Card Draws on your next turn! Hopefully some bug-squashing will paint it in a better light in future, and I’m genuinely intrigued how the DLC characters planned will be integrated into this already chunky story. The Hunter also has their own ‘Balance’ mechanic which grants players different rewards based on whether they follow a Light or Dark path – Balance is determined by dialogue responses in conversations and what types of Hunter cards you use in combat.

Originally growing up exclusively with Nintendo products, Derek's perspective grew to include other platforms ranging from Sony, to Microsoft, the PC, and more. It performed smoothly, but the limitations of entirely flat environments with only minor emphasis on positioning left me wanting more. That’s perhaps the highest compliment I could pay Midnight Suns because it’s what’s been missing up to this point in Marvel games.

This game is absolutely a departure from one that I adore in XCOM, but so much of what appeals to me about those games is still present in Midnight Suns. We’ve found that Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange, and either Blade or the Hunter makes for a solid superhero team.

This doesn’t happen all the time, of course, but it’s just another thing that makes Marvel’s Midnight Suns something of a pain to play on PC.If not for a rather significant bug that dragged back my progress, Marvel’s Midnight Suns would have been an absolute joy from start to finish.

It’s also worth mentioning that the Hunter is required for story missions, and sometimes so are other heroes, but in general missions, you can choose any of your unlocked heroes. It’s balanced beautifully, and I constantly felt the desire to learn more about where the stories being told were going. In addition to this, we can’t help but feel as though being able to make use of the twin-stick camera controls available on consoles is so much easier – and more efficient – than using the WASD keys to move the camera and holding a mouse button to rotate it.

However, the game also has some bigger issues, which fans have been attempting to remedy before an official update hopefully arrives at some point. This character, who can be customised to look like the kind of hero you want them to be, is the warrior offspring of Lilith.
