Description

In the other continuing thread from the earlier book, Miles Faulkner, is now serving a suspended four year sentence for Art theft and fighting a divorce suit with his wife Christina. He settles on giving up all his Artwork, his estate and the Flat in Eaton Square in his divorce settlement. But, unbeknownst to Christina, he plans to part with none of his wealth. In collusion with his counsel and sometimes without his knowledge, he plans a daring move – one designed to remove the paintings from Christina’s grasp and wrest control of his mansion too, by bankrupting Christina.

These SIO meetings are held every Monday morning, DC Adaja,’ said the commander, ‘to bring us all up to date on how any major investigations are progressing.’ Well, you won’t have to wait long. He’ll be joining us in a few minutes. He has an outstanding CV, having read law at Cambridge where he was awarded a blue in the Boat Race.’ But as William and his team close the net around a criminal network unlike any they have ever encountered, he is also faced with an old enemy, Miles Faulkner. It will take all of William’s cunning to devise a means to bring both men to justice, a trap neither will expect, one that is hidden in plain sight . . . Although the characters are lovable there is one, the great Sir Julian, that shows some racism and even prejudice against women. There is a wedding scene that was supposed to be very dramatic but the level of politeness was too high to have caused any effect and it was quite silly with mediocre dialogues.Rather you than me,’ said Lamont with a sigh. ‘However,’ continued the commander, ‘the commissioner, in his wisdom, felt a winning team shouldn’t be broken up, so you two will be joining him as part of an elite drugs unit on the first of the month.’

As the team start to close in on the huge drug operation that is run by Ahmed Rashidi, they only have one option for how they can secure his arrest. It’s a risky plan as it truly involves being hidden in plain sight. Will William and the team come out successful? I also love that the series definitely feels like it’s developing. I sense that Jeffrey Archer had an outline for where this series would go and as readers we’re gradually being drawn further into the lives of the characters; William especially. I feel like I’m progressing through his career and his life with him.Once again, the story benefits from a sharp, crisp delivery that demands your attention and is filled with snappy dialogue, a compelling court scene and repeated blindsides designed to throw everyone off balance.

The plot seems interesting, right? Well, the book is not interesting at all. The book was made extremely boring because of the long conversations made by each character in each chapter. The writing was simple and not at all suspenseful. The only good thing about this book was that I could somehow keep on reading it. It wasn't gripping or anything, the story was a bit good so I thought of continuing it. I think you’ll find he’s just as impressive on dry land,’ said the commander, after the applause had died down. ‘He’s already served for three years with the Regional Crime Squad in Crawley. However, there’s something else I ought to mention before—’ The other case involves a very clever dealer who takes all the resources of the squad to investigate. The man is very intelligent and the squad has to take really complex steps to try and catch this clever man.

Customer reviews

Ein toller zweiter Band, der mir sogar besser als der erste gefallen hat. Der Schreibstil war mal wieder typisch Jeffrey Archer. Genau deswegen finde ich seine Bücher so toll! In the course of this novel, William gets married to his long standing girlfriend Beth and they become proud parents to twins – a girl and a boy. William’s sister Grace, meanwhile, assists their father Sir Julian on an important case and looks like she’ll grow into a fine Barrister, much to her family’s pride. While on William’s professional front the arrest and conviction of Assem Rashidi becomes paramount and his impregnable fortress, first has to be traced then breached and destroyed, so that he cannot operate again. First and foremost, a large thank you to NetGalley, Jeffrey Archer, and St. Martin’s Press for providing me with a copy of this publication, which allows me to provide you with an unbiased review. Mrs Faulkner will be well aware of any other criminal activities her husband is involved in, which would be useful for us to know about,’ said Lamont, ‘in advance.
