Slimer, also known as The Green Ghost, Onionhead, Little Spud, King Remlis or The Ghost of John Belushi (depending on the source), was the first ghost that the Ghostbusters attempted to apprehend. He is made up of pure ectoplasm, and is considered a real nasty non-terminal repeating phantasm, or a Class 5 full roaming vapor. The Kenner "Real Ghostbusters" action figure did not refer to the character as "Slimer", instead calling him "The Green Ghost". His size proportion was much larger to the characters than the Slimer's actual size. Egon Spengler (2009). The Real Ghostbusters - " Citizen Ghost" (1986) (DVD ts. 09:23-09:25). Time Life Entertainment. Egon says: "If you don't mind, I'd like to study you." Slimer is shown in the trailer for "Ghostbusters: The Video Game," flying at the viewer in a manner similar to the end of the first movie, before a transition into the traditional Ghostbusters emblem.

An empty, dark grey cell indicates the character was not in the film, or that the character's official presence has not yet been confirmed. Discovery YouTube "Mike lives his lifelong dream of getting slimed! | Dirty Jobs | Discovery" 6:39-6:40 3/10/2023 Scott Hegar says: "165 gallons.'" It didn’t all come together,” Reitman says now. “We just sort of got off on the wrong foot story-wise on that film.” Moranis echoes this, saying, “To have something as offbeat, unusual, and unpredictable [as] the first Ghostbusters, it’s next to impossible to create something better. [And] with sequels, it’s not that the audience wants more of something; they want better.” On July 17, 2018, the Slimers are mentioned in the Green Ghost's bio on the 43rd Crossing Over Virtual Trading Card, posted . [56] In Extreme Ghostbusters, it is unclear why Frank Welker never reprised his role as Slimer, even though he returned to play the part of Ray Stantz for the series finale. Over the decades, it was claimed that Frank Welker was unavailable in the original casting sessions, and therefore someone else had to play Slimer. [ citation needed] In 2023, Billy West revealed he was offered the role of Slimer but was lied to. He was told Frank Welker did not want to reprise the role. It might have been an issue about money. [53]Thelma Moss, of the Parapsychology department at UCLA, told Harold Ramis Slimer was similar to a classic type of haunting known as 'hungry ghosts' - a ghost who just ears and drinks. Ramis admitted they didn't know about that when they wrote the script. Egon Spengler (2009). The Real Ghostbusters - " The Spirit of Aunt Lois" (1987) (DVD ts. 02:41-02:45). Time Life Entertainment. Egon says: "Wait, Peter! The value to science would be incalculable. We could get the Nobel Prize." Slimer is classified as a focused, Non-Terminal Repeating Phantasm, or a Class 5 Full Roaming Vapor.

Peter Venkman (2017). IDW Comics- " Ghostbusters 101 #3" (2017) (Comic p.15). Peter Venkman says: "I'm just saying, I'm tired of that little spud eating my good cheese!" In all episodes except: Ain't NASA-Sarily So, Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Ghost?, You Can't Take it With You, Drool, the Dog Faced Goblin, The Collect Call of Cathulhu, Lights! Camera! Egon Spengler (2009). The Real Ghostbusters - " Adventures in Slime and Space" (1987) (DVD ts. 06:37-06:44). Time Life Entertainment. Egon says: "Every time one of the little Slimers hits a material object, it shatters into a whole bunch more of these little Slimers." In the early scripts and novelization of the first film by Larry Milne, Silmer is described as being yellow. In The Real Ghostbusters Marvel UK series, Slimer was revealed to be the ghost of King Remils (an anagram of Slimer). The canonicity of this comic strip is doubtful though. Aykroyd presented the script to Reitman; the two had worked together in a Toronto-based live-television variety show years earlier. “It was a screenplay that was impossible to make but one that had brilliant ideas in it,” recalls Reitman, who once admitted that the original draft “exhausted” him. Far darker than the version that was eventually shot, it took place in the future and on a number of different planets or dimensional planes. Yet it contained elements that would make it onto the big screen, including the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man and what would become the world-famous Ghostbusters logo—a ghost trapped inside a circular red stop symbol. Peter Venkman (2015). IDW Comics- " Ghostbusters: Get Real Issue #2" (2015) (Comic p.17). Peter says: "You thinking about putting Slimer in one of these boxes, too?"

In recent years, the tabloid press and Internet reports have fueled rumors of discord among the original Ghostbusters cast about the project. In a 2010 appearance on David Letterman, Bill Murray called the prospect of a Ghostbusters III “my nightmare.” When asked by Letterman if he’d participate in the film, Murray replied, “I told them if they killed me off in a first reel, I’d do it.” Yet there appear to be no hard public feelings, at least for Reitman: “Bill’s had a life change in what he wants to do as an actor and God bless him.” Slimer in the Primary Canon is developed from Ghostbusters (1984) and Ghostbusters II. In Ghostbusters: The Video Game (Realistic Versions), a Secondary Canon, Ghostbusters (1984) and Ghostbusters II pre-date the game, Ghostbusters: Afterlife conflicts with the game. Slimer (prime) appears in the IDW Comic Series, a Secondary Canon, which follows Ghostbusters (1984) and Ghostbusters II, also includes some elements from Ghostbusters: The Video Game (Realistic Versions) and Ghostbusters: The Video Game (Stylized Versions); as well as being canon to Tobin's Spirit Guide (Insight Editions). Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime video game, deemed a Tertiary Canon, follows Ghostbusters (1984) and Ghostbusters II. The team faced another almost despair-inducing challenge right from the start: the new Ghostbusters script called for nearly 200 special-effects shots—and the principals recall that most of the other special-effects facilities were tied up with other major projects, including Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and Return of the Jedi. Reitman proposed an ambitious solution: “I said, ‘Look, we have to start our own effects house.’”Breznican, Anthony (November 22, 2021). "The Day Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Ernie Hudson Became Ghostbusters Again". Vanity Fair. Archived from the original on November 26, 2021 . Retrieved November 11, 2021. His collaborators say that Aykroyd was an astonishingly good sport about having his template torn apart and almost completely reworked. “I’m a better originator than executor of a finished screenplay,” Aykroyd admits. “I’m a kitchen-sink writer: I throw everything in there. I’ve always relied on a collaborator to bring it into reality.” Said Harold Ramis in Making Ghostbusters (1985), an annotated script in book form: “Dan’s great at creating funny situations, whereas my strength is more in the area of strong jokes and funny dialogue. Essentially, we wrote separately, and then rewrote each other.” Aykroyd also served as the paranormal-activities expert, providing official (and official-sounding) jargon.

Kofi Outlaw (June 7, 2019). "Sigourney Weaver Confirms Return for New Ghostbusters, Bill Murray Likely Involved". comicbook.com.Slimer's segments were deemed intrusive by preview audiences. [44] During editing, Ivan Reitman decided to limit Slimer's role even though all scripted scenes were filmed and completed. Ultimately, Slimer's scenes were trimmed to two brief shots plus one during the end titles. The Day Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Ernie Hudson Became Ghostbusters Again". Vanity Fair. Ray says: "Oh, ho, no sorry. I misplaced a decimal point. 4,120 years." Garrett Miller and Slimer get along just fine. They both share the same appetite. On some occasions though, Garrett gets mad at Slimer when he eats his food. Slimer and Winston sort of had an on off friendship due to Winston's love for the Ecto-1. Winston accepts Slimer's shortcomings and overall gets along well with the spud.
