Review: This book is absolutely sumptuous, now in its sixth edition, and nearly 20 years since the first edition was published, the sheer scale and size of this book is a testament to the enduring value of this beautiful collection. First published in 1987, and providing a snapshot of British garden plants and trends for more than 30 years, the RHS Plant Finder is a horticultural bible. The articles are well-written and very interesting, the layout is good and the book is very easy to use (other than the fact that you need to be a power lifter to actually carry the thing).Whether you're a beginner in the garden or looking for ideas to give your patch a fresh new look this RHS gardening book will guide you through.

Or use the extensive plant dictionary to look up more than 8,000 plant varieties and the best growing conditions. Each variety is photographed and the new "how to" section tells you all you need to know on cultivation, pruning and care. Discover perennials, bulbs, shrubs, and trees, succulents, and ornamental shrubs, all showcased in beautiful, full-colour photography.Find the perfect plants for your garden with this inspiring encyclopedia for all gardening enthusiasts! Plant selector begins main part of book giving lists of plants suitable for differing soil types, sites and uses.

It's a big, chunky doorstep of a book, as you'd expect from an encyclopedia, and it's very well designed (I'm a qualified graphic designer, so I do know what I'm talking about on this front). This new edition features the latest and most popular cultivars, with more than 1,400 new plants added, as well as updated photography, hardiness ratings, and a brand-new introduction. By using the Web site, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to be bound by the Terms and Conditions.Organised by colour, size, and type, rather than as an A-Z directory, and accompanied by beautiful, full-colour images, it will help you select the right varieties for your outdoor space. Originally compiled by Chris Philip and his partner Denys Gueroult, who were looking for interesting plants to grow in their garden and recording what nursery was selling what selection, the original Plant Finder listed 22,000 plants.

In fact, due to my degenerative eye condition, I'm extremely photophobic and have to limit time spent in natural daylight, so gardening and I don't really mix well.Plants presented gouped by colour, along with basic info on requirements (sun/shade, hardiness, water requirements) and a thumbnail photo, lots of cultivars included in photos. This fully comprehensive yet easy-to-use informative planting guide is what every gardener needs on their bookshelf. Due to annual changes to some plant nomenclature, nursery plant lists and supplier contact information, we strongly recommend you always refer to the most up-to-date edition of the directory.
