If you’re after the fastest, most efficient drivetrain possible, immersive waxing is currently king. Look around any professional race or time trial and you’re bound to spot more than a few waxed chains. Grease can be ideal for machinery you use less often, ensuring it stays protected. It’s also useful when you want to seal parts from water droplets and dust particles. The main reason for applying grease is to ensure a lubricant can adhere to a surface for an extended period of time. It works well on chains, bearings, linkages and gears. Penetrating lubricants Anti-friction (AF) coatings are “lubricating paints” composed of fine particles of lubricating colors like moly disulphide, graphite, or PTFE mixed with binder. After the application and proper curing, these “slippery” (or dry) lubricants adhere to the metal’s surface, resulting in the dark gray solid film. Many dry film lubricants have particular rust inhibitors that offer outstanding corrosion protection.

You get more lubricant per millilitre with this type of lube and the increased viscosity of the oils means this type of lubricant should last longer and is much less prone to getting washed off your chain if you encounter water. The density of a lubricant depends on pressure and temperature. The higher the density, the greater the possible performance lossesThere are lots of variations of wood-safe dry lubricant out there, all of which could work to help fix squeaky floors. For example: Some people will suggest wedging shims into the space beneath the floorboards to close the gap. In theory, this prevents them from moving. Also, the benefits of dry-film lubricants can be applied to instances where lubrication is required in a high-temperature environment or where there is an oxidising atmosphere. Liquid lubricants such as oil and grease will typically not survive these conditions. Oil is among of the most common natural lubricants found in plant life. High-quality mineral oil is used as a base for both all-natural options and for synthetic or semi-synthetic oils produced by leading manufacturers like Shell, Mobile and Quaker Houghton. Oil is typically a thin liquid that can be bought with different viscosity levels to suit different purposes. Many oils today contain specially formulated additives that enhance or detract from the base oil’s native properties, or empower it with entirely new and useful properties. Additives can prevent corrosion or oxidising, provide protection against wear and stop foaming and deposit build-up.

Dry-film lubricants can also be used in ceramic applications for cases where chemically active lubricant additives have not been found for a particular surface, such as polymers or ceramics. However, it is important to note that it is not safe to use with most condoms as it breaks down the latex. Dry film lubricants are an attractive alternative to fluid lubricants because they minimise friction and prevent seizing and galling, especially in extreme applications where fluids may freeze or vaporise. For instances where traditional lubricants, like oil or grease, can undergo a state change (i.e. freeze) and thus no longer provide protection, a dry-film lubricant will remain intact and provide continuous lubrication and protection.Dry-powder tumble is a reliable technique for application. The bonding may be enhanced by prior phosphating the substrate. The use of free powders comes with limitations as their adhesion on the substrate is not enough to give any longevity for continuous applications. A brief time frame of improved slide conditions could be sufficient to enhance conditions for running-in of metal-forming processes. Best practice for this type of lube is to apply sparingly to each link in the chain and wipe off any excess before riding. Fakari FR, et al. (2020). A review of pharmacological treatments for vaginal atrophy in postmenopausal women in Iran.

Graphite is structurally composed of planes of polycyclic carbon atoms that are hexagonal in orientation. The distance of carbon atoms between planes is longer and, therefore, the bonding is weaker. While all of the above are valid uses, anyone can get a little something from getting slippy. So, if you’re wondering “what is lube?” or “which lube is right for me?”, pens, paper and sex toys at the ready – we’re about to give you the lowdown on all things lube. Using a similar method, it’s better to use short screws (not long as to go through the floor) to secure floorboards. This doesn’t always work however and you can do more damage if you don’t know what you’re doing. Using ShimsCondoms are usually lubricated, but with long-lasting sex, they can dry out and lube can help reduce the chance of the condom tearing. You can use any type of lubricant with polyurethane condoms that are not made of latex. However, if you’re using latex or polyisoprene condoms, avoid using oil-based lubricants as they can cause them to tear. Apply a moderate amount of Bio Dry Chain Lube to the inside chain link while spinning pedals in a reverse motion Not only are oil-based lubes great for sex, but they can also be used for massage time - so you’re basically getting a two for one. But, the downside comes if you’re using a latex condom. This type of lube increases the chances of a ripped or torn condom, defeating the condom’s purpose. Silicone-based lubricant
