Did he believe she wouldn't come to their place that year and thus decided it was his perfect cue to leave this world like a gentleman? If he did, he didn't know Charlotte at all. Which is logical, seeing as their interactions happened once a year for the duration of 4 years, books and notes shared aside. And once Tate is finally introduced in the story, Charlie already has this idea of who he is, and their first meeting doesn’t exactly help his case. Early on, in the book, we start to get more of who Tate actually is and he’s such a complex character, just like Charlie. They both wanted what was best for their siblings. And they carry the guilt of the mistakes they made with their siblings heavily. It really made for an interesting dynamic with the two. Even if they didn’t initially like each other in the beginning, Charlie and Tate were forever intertwined with each other and I think they were the only two people who understood each other’s pain. To begin my descent into hell, let me enjoy first refilling my memory with the brightest moments of this book!! Charlotte Richards has been through her fair share of heartache and tragedy to last her a lifetime. Her emotional scars will never heal in the way that she wants it to and existing feels like a burden most days. When a chance encounter with a classmate changes her perspective on what was supposed to be the worst day of her life, Charlie makes a pact with her new friend. Little does she know that one handshake and a spoken promise is going to change her in ways that she’ll never see coming.

I also can't stand how a book that relies so much on the cahracters' internal battle against grief and guilt and self-loathing doesn't eventually end with one or both of them going to therapy. like on the one hand, the romance itself was done well. i believed in these two characters connecting over shared grief. i liked that at various points throughout the story there were moments where one person was giving up and the other person helped em get through. nice nice. From USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling author Ashley Jade comes an edgy, enemies-to-lovers standalone romance about mistakes, forgiveness, and second chances. Still. It made me cry in several occasions. Now if you’re looking for a good cry then please don’t take my word because I cry for everything. — And Leah (Charlotte's sister) I found myself rooting for her on her journey as well with love and acceptance of herself and letting others in after heartbreak and emotional/physical scarring. And Jonah is the most patient man I every had the pleasure of reading about. He understood Leah's insecurities and loves her unconditionally despite her trying to push him away.

until he met charlie, the one link to his dead brother, he chased her at the beginning to try and pry as much information as he could out of her about his brother, whilst trying to make sense of what their relationship was. once charlie found the letter that kellan left for her, she dug her way into his home and heart as she worked on the book alongside tate's dad, who was couch surfing in his house as he was a broke, drunk. the dynamic between him and his father was so funny even if tate seemed like he hated him.

Aside from that though, all the characters in this (with the exception of my Jonah, of course), are one-dimensional. They start off miserable and they end miserable. I didn’t care for the small redemptions some of them had—Leah realizing not everything is about her and finally being the older sister she had to be, Terry saying he’s not a fraud (he is), Charlie…is Charlie, Tate…is Tate, Kellan is…dead. This is my second time reading something by this author and I was pleasantly surprised to find out this is her signature writing style and not a fortuitous event.fast forward four years later and kellan’s death has brought together two broken souls - charlotte and tate. both are ridden with guilt and self loathing, over the death of their loved ones. in part 2 when charlotte became charlie we got to see a different side to her, gone was the suicidal girl instead, there was a girl who has learned to be happy in her own skin, yes she was still having problems with her sister but she never gave up on her. charlie is the definition of resilience, this girl fought for her sister's happiness, tate's happiness/their relationship, & for terry to find himself again.

This is supposed to be a steamy romance but it really isn’t. The steamy scenes were extremely bland since our dearest two leads didn’t have any chemistry at all.this is an age gap (12 years) she’s 22 and he’s 34 - but he would constantly refer to her as a “kid” and he would go on and on ab why he shouldn’t and couldn’t be with her bc she’s way too young and y’know his dead brothers best friend - yet his inner thoughts was him going on about how horny he would get whenever he was around her, make it make sense pls Imagine my surprise when what I actually felt when Kellan finally jumped off that roof was a cold, cold fury. I really thought I would feel some kind of things going into this book, but the only scene that made me feel anything was that ob-gyn scene when Tate (H) was fingering Charlotte ‘Charlie’ (h) Sometimes, I lay in bed, listening to my own heartbeats thudding against the mattress and willing my heart to stop.

I loved how he ran after her under the heavy rain with her coat in his hands so that she didn't catch pneumonia. 🥺 Maybe if Bastiano knew who she was, he would’ve just stayed away. He would’ve stayed loyal to his family, his life, his duty. But he didn’t. So he fell in love with Ariana De Luca. The help. A De Luca. A woman that is as talented a spy as she is in bed. A twisted beautiful traitor with a tongue that’s sharper than whips. She is the daughter of the mafia boss for the De Luca crime syndicate. And he’s Romano royalty. Did I mention that same brother also dedicated a whole ass book to Charlie before he JUMPED FROM THE ROOF THEY ARE SHARING SALIVA ON I AM- Entertaining in the sense that it was predictable, bizarre, embarrassing, comedic, and unrealistic. It was a promise I shouldn’t have made. One that defied the hardest lesson I’d ever learned. Love is expensive. Its currency is grief. And sometimes, it costs more than you can afford.” Niccolaio Andretti” is the second novel in the “Five Syndicates” series and was released in the year 2017. Minka is fighting for her sister, while Niccolaio has got a million dollar bounty on his head. Dating guys for money is not what most girls dream about when they grow up. However after graduating from college, she just cannot seem to catch a break. No place to live, no job offers, not even a couch to dig for change under. However, I expected the romance to match the mood, and that's where my expectations were met with disappointment, which is why I ended up not loving this as much as I thought I would at first. this book was... interesting. i told myself i'd be better about rating and reviewing books but i'm sort of at a loss for words and rating here. it's a reading experience that i enjoyed (after reading aforementioned gyno scene to haden while he chortled) but am not quite sure how to summarize otherwise.
