More than any other rock band, before or since, Queenwere both a great albums band and a great singles band. Greatest Hits II is a compilation album by the British rock band Queen, released on 28 October 1991.

The cover photo that appeared on the UK and US release was taken by Lord Snowdon at his home studio, using only natural light. This alone would be enough for me to dismiss Greatest Hits, but I realise I am very privileged: I am very familiar with the entire catalogue and I know which songs are my favourite. Freddie Mercury designed the crest on the album cover, using the astrological signs of the four members: two Leos ( Roger Taylor and John Deacon), one Cancer ( Brian May) and one Virgo (Mercury). It is without question that Queen were a unique and supremely talented band- Brian May’s guitar sound, Freddy's presence, tight rhythms and the vocal harmonies made certain of that- and for all their eclecticism they always sounded like themselves, but Greatest Hits is just that – a collection of the most popular songs released by the band as singles. In 2004, to promote the Las Vegas production of the musical We Will Rock You, Hollywood Records released Greatest Hits: We Will Rock You Edition, which was the UK Greatest Hits with three bonus tracks. However, retrospective reviews have rated the album higher: Ira Robbins gave Greatest Hits a B+ rating in Entertainment Weekly upon its reissue in 1992, [9] and AllMusic awarded the record four and a half stars out of five. What the album also proves is that Queen concentrated their studio album efforts on what they truly did best (Catchy Pop Songs) then they would have probably made that great studio album instead of creating those inconsistencies that would dog their career. The album consisted of Queen's biggest hits since their first chart appearance in 1974 with " Seven Seas of Rhye", up to their 1980 hit " Flash" (though in some countries " Under Pressure", the band's 1981 chart-topper with David Bowie, was included). In the US, the release of Greatest Flix was scheduled for 15 November 1981 on Warner Home Video, but distribution was switched to EMI Music after the band's management disagreed with Warner's recent decision to move to a rental-only programme instead of selling their videos.

This compilation was made up of tracks such as "Bohemian Rhapsody", "Keep Yourself Alive" and "Under Pressure" (which had already appeared on the Elektra 1981 Hits collection), as well as newer tracks (" A Kind of Magic" and " Radio Ga Ga"). e. no gimmicky recently released or never previously released song, obscure B Tracks or a remastered song that so many Best Of albums resort to in an effort to sell more copies. Among the longest charting albums in the US, as of November 2023, it has spent 566 weeks on the Billboard 200, and has been certified 9× platinum in the US. If A Day at the Races and A Night at the Opera were to some degree progressive rock albums that blended musical theatre, opera and rock guitars in a way that no-one had ever really done before (albeit with a knowing Vaudeville wink and a twinkle in their eyes) News of the World saw the band take a commercial turn that they expanded on in Jazz, The Game and pretty much everything after. It would later re-appear as part of the " Greatest Hits I + II" set (1994) as well as " The Platinum Collection" (2000).However, the band had just changed record labels in the US, from Capitol to Hollywood Records, who were keen on a massive promotion of the band's back catalogue. Later that year, Hollywood Records released a companion collection, Greatest Hits, with similar artwork (on a red background, where Classic Queen was on royal blue). It is a compilation of latter-day songs, the band members' solo hits and the band's collaborations with other artists (hence the album's credit to " Queen+"). In some territories, despite the band's popularity, not enough songs were issued as singles to fill a compilation album, and a few album tracks were used as filler. After 2000-2005, compilation albums have no meaning for music fans (except for supporting the band financially) because any fan can easily create compilations.

If a band is successful and long-lived, their greatest hits arc will run something like this: 1) A greatest hits released on album or cassette, with usually 10-12 songs. Front hype sticker on bottom right corner reads "ONE OF THE WORLD'S BEST-SELLING ALBUMS OF ALL TIME! Yes, Queen albums have songs that will send most people to the skip button, and yes, Greatest Hits contains all (most? In the UK, the album was limited to the Queen singles that had reached the top 20 in the UK singles chart up to that point, plus " We Will Rock You", which had been the B-side of " We Are the Champions".It’s a rather pointless release from my point of view, but it’s their best selling one, so surely it deserves some respect. I can see how a Greatest Hits could be attractive as an introduction to a band, and although in the age of streaming this should really be no longer the case, for a band like Queen it probably still is given they firmly belong to the previous generation. This grouping collects all versions and editions of the "Greatest Hits II" compilation, originally released on 28. I have a problem with "greatest hits" albums because they use the single versions of songs instead of the full length album cuts, the edited Fat Bottomed Girls being the most egregious example here. In June 2022, Greatest Hits spent its 1,000th week on the UK Albums Chart, and in July 2022, it reached seven million sales, with one in four households in the UK estimated to have a copy of the album.

It is available on LP, cassette, 8-track, Reel-to-Reel, and of course, it was later re-issued on CD ( 1984 onwards) and MiniDisc (1998), some in typical remastered fashion (eg. Este disco suena realmente mal, pense que era un problema de prensaje pero investigando en las otras ediciones parece que el problema esta en la mezcla que se hizo en algun punto en los 00s.We all love Queen, but who honestly sits through their albums - as good as A Night At The Opera is it's all over the place. Hollywood Records decided not to release Greatest Hits II to the US market, but instead created their own collection, Classic Queen (1992), peaking at number four on the Billboard 200 chart. For me, it would be things like ‘39 and Death on Two Legs, Let Me Entertain You, Dragon Attack, A Kind of Magic, Princes Of The Universe, Get Down Make Love and, possibly my favourite Queen song, Spread Your Wings.
