weeks. Though a manicure created with builder gel can last up to three weeks, this often depends on which brand you use and how well you apply it – plus, how well the old coat is removed. When applied on natural nails, a strong and healthy base is required. Well, the molecules in hard gels are more tightly compacted, so the acetone solvent can’t penetrate them as easily. Plenty of our Bluesky users also love adding an extra coat of Hard Gel before the Top Coat, so you can experiment with what works best for you and your nails to ensure they stay stronger for longer. If you’re ready to say goodbye to your hard gel nails, the process is actually quite simple. First, start by trimming your nails down as much as possible. Next, use a nail file to roughen up the surface of the gel. This will help the acetone to penetrate the gel more easily. Then, soak a cotton ball in acetone and place it on each nail. Another key difference is how long they last. Dip nails last longer (up to 4 weeks) while acrylics last around 3 weeks on average.

Gel, BIAB, Aprés Gel-X, Acrylics 7 Types Of Nail Enhancements: Gel, BIAB, Aprés Gel-X, Acrylics

Hard gel comes in many consistencies depending on your needs. There are builder gels, sculpting gels and other types of hard gels. What differentiates the products are the viscosity or consistency, how the gel moves and their use. Hard gels can be slow moving, fast moving or stationary. The ability for the hard gel to move or flow on the nail is usually denoted as self-leveling. I use self-leveling gels because they are easier to use and require less manipulation by the technician. When people talk about using gel polish, it's most likely they're talking about soft gel. Soft gel polish is the polish most people think of when they want a gel manicure. It's the traditional gel polish that is cured with UV light and can be soaked off.

How do you remove Hard Gel?

When the builder gel begins to grow out, you can infill just like you would with acrylic, or remove the set and apply another straight away – providing the nail is still in good condition. Of course, as with any type of nail treatment, you should always give your nails a break every 3 to 6 months. Can you use gel polish on top of hard gel? Yes you can use Builder Gel on top of Hard Gel, however Hard Gel is best used as a nail strengthener – either underneath your gel polish colour coats or on its own for a natural-looking manicure. Builder Gel is perfect for gel nail extensions and can be used with nail forms to sculpt medium to long nail extensions. Soft gel isn't strong enough to build nail extensions or be used as a builder gel. While it does offer some protection for your nails compared to regular nail polish, it's not as hard as builder gel or hard gel.

Here’s What You Need to Know About Hard Gels | Nailpro

You can use hard gel to overlay natural nails, sculpt extensions and repair broken nails. It is great to overlay clients who are transitioning from acrylic, want to strengthen their natural nails, want extensions or longer nails, or have weak and brittle nails that need more support and structure. If you are removing acrylic from a client, hard gel is the best product to use as it will provide more support. As a beauty editor who has qualified as a nail tech in my spare time, I spent a lot of time trying different nail trends like aura and cat eye nails and different types of nail enhancements like gel extensions and Polygel. Plenty of our Bluesky users love infilling Hard Gel as it means they don't have to completely remove the product!Although simpler and sometimes slightly bulkier, a good top coat can make acrylics appear just as glossy as gels. And, because they cure during the application, there’s no unnecessary exposure to UV light. Another bonus of hard gel is that you can fill it in, just like you would acrylic. Hard gel plays nice with acrylic, but inversely, I would not fill in hard gel with acrylic. Hard gel is a great option for clients who do not want to soak their nails every service but rather a service they can fill in. This is also a good service for people who are interested in growing their natural nails to longer lengths. When building extensions, there are a few different ways you can add length to a nail. It's important to understand that not every product is suited to each technique of building extensions. According to Ornellas, hard gel extensions are created in one of two ways: with nail tips or nail forms. Nail tips are preshaped plastic extenders that can function as bones, so to speak, for a svelte mani look. Once the natural nail has been prepped, tips are glued to the top edge, a.k.a. the free edge, and are clipped to the desired length. Once secure, tips can be layered with hard gel (or other structural product, like dip powder). Gels that do not self-level require more manipulation and filing to create a smooth, even surface. You want to opt for a self-leveling gel to eliminate the need to finish file and reduce your service time.

Hard Gel | Professional Gel Nails | Ellisons

Over time as nail technology developed, hard gel formulations were adapted and brought to the market in a weaker form, known as soft gels and gel polishes. It’s this type of gel manicure that’s most popularly favoured today. Our Hard Gel System (or Buff Off Gel System) contains superior top quality builder gels and hard gel colour gels in an inexhaustible range. Both beginners and experienced professionals will be able to find their favourite builder gel products. Easy Extensions: Create short extensions with ease. Bluesky Hard Gel comes in a bottle just like gel polish, so you can easily apply the product onto your nails, an essential addition to your gel nail kit

Hard gel is used to extend the nail “99 percent of the time,” Suzie says. Less frequently, it’s used for a nonextension technique referred to as a gel overlay. Overlays deliver a hard, protective coating over the natural nail “to protect or cover the nail and make it feel harder.” How do you apply hard gel? Hard gel cannot be soaked off because solvents cannot penetrate hard gel. This means that hard gel forms an impermeable bond on the natural nail—protecting it from breaking down or being penetrated by any substance including acetone—which makes it durable and excellent at protecting the natural nail.

Gels vs acrylics – which one wins? | Nail Polish Direct

During application, the natural nail is filed down to create a rough surface where the glue will be placed. Then acrylic powder (polymer) and liquid (monomer) stored in two separate containers are mixed to create a mould to glue onto the nails. Yes! Bluesky products are and always will be cruelty-free - we never test on animals. We are also registered by The Vegan Society as Vegan Friendly and we are registered by PETA as Cruelty Free. The pre-mixed formula ups the ante further on hard gel’s many advantages. “It’s always the perfect consistency right out of the jar,” says Adams. The one-step application is not only easy, but also a great option for clients who may have lifting problems with acrylic—which can often be the result of the wrong liquid/powder ratio. Because the chemical reaction has already occurred with hard gel, it takes the mixing ratio out of the equation, explains Allison Ross, a SuperNail educator based in South Jordan, Utah, who reaches for hard gel when other products aren’t working. “When in doubt,” she says, “gel will get the job done!” They are slightly more durable than acrylic, they also are less likely to irritate allergy sufferers. Unlike gels, acrylics are air-cured and begin to set once applied to the nail. Much like soft gel polish, acrylics are removed by soaking the nails in acetone.

Dual forms are used only with Gum Gel. A layer of product is applied on the concave (inside) of the form, before placing the entire form over the surface of the nail. Once cured, the form is released from the hardened gum gel leaving behind a perfectly shaped extension. This is a great tool for beginners but it takes a bit of practice to get the right quantities of product, and the correct pressure when applying it to the nail without flooding the cuticle. Want to see hard gel in action? Watch the video below featuring Los Angeles-based nail tech Sabella Snyder create a pink-and-while with hard gel. Cons: Hard gels are similar to Acrylic Nails. The difference is, instead of the Nail Technician mixing a liquid catalyst (monomer) and powder (polymer) together to build a nail, the mixture is combined into one product.
