Description

You can use a high grit abrasive paper like 240, 320, 400, 500, 600 grit – it doesn’t really matter - any of those will do the job – if you use a lower grit like 240 you’ll do a little bit less work but your finish will be less smooth, if you use a higher 600 grit you’ll do a little more work but have smoother finish. Our Finishing Pads (De-nibbing Pads) are used to give wooden finishes a perfectly smooth feel after the application of an oil or varnish.

Finishing Pads, also known as De-Nibbing Pads, are used to sand finishes down in between applications of finish (Oil, Paint, Varnish) to help create a much smoother finish at the end. Apply the first coat of finish, and wait for it to fully dry based on the manufacturers instructions. Also as the instructions on the tin say to sand the bare wood to 120 grit so I would need to use the same grit between coats and then like 600 grit after the final coat?I have heard that denibbing is a good thing to do after each coat of finish so I wanted to get some advice on where to get the pads from and what sort of grits? It might seem counter-intuitive to be sanding a finish that you’ve just applied, so I prefer to think about it as polishing the finish that you’ve applied rather than sanding it. Thank you so does that mean with the product I am looking at using I would need to use a fine grade wool? Aluminium Oxide abrasive ('Green' general purpose and 'Red' very fine pads), Silicon Carbide abrasive ('Grey' ultra fine pads), Phenolic resin bonded to nylon fibre pad.

There was a problem with item description, In uploaded description it said paint size 8oz, I received 4oz and also said it had masking tape. To which I should have added "and in the case of a wooden item, to re-flatten any grain that may have been raised during the application of the paint/varnish". Basic purpose is to remove/flatten any minute specs of dust, etc, that were airborne and have settled while the finish was drying, and/or any specs of rubbish that were in the liquid finish as you applied it (though you do strain your material through a coffee filter and old pair of ladies tights before EVERY use, don't you? I have since read the instruction for the wood wax I will be using which says to have sanded the bare wood to 120 grit for maximum absorption into the wood.

Its really just a light going over the surface to remove any lose nibs or particles that managed to get in or under the first coat of oil. If it doesn’t that means that more denibbing is required, and after that if it still isnt smooth then it probably hasn’t been as sanded as well as it should of. Use of 600 grit is for the first coat (when fully dry), even finer grit, or very worn 600 grit for the second coat, final coat 4x0 wire wool. Mirka Mirlon pads are recomended when decorating for the removal of raised grain on timber after an initial coating has been applied, and recommended for denibbing between subsequent coats.Starting with the obvious reason and that is to get your finish as smooth and professional looking and feeling as possible. I have also been told that soft sanding pads are good as well I presume these are the same as the Abranet pads? You might notice at this point that the finish looks really bad, I might look dull, dusty or kind of murky, but don’t worry about that, because the next coat of finish is going to make it look beautiful again!
