The extension is supplied with a standard multi slit ER16 engineering collet which fully grips around the router bit shank for safer routing with less vibration. The collet is made from heat treated precision ground spring steel which gives a runout accuracy of less than 0.01mm. The collet has been specifically designed to grip over a 1mm range from 6.5mm down to 5.5mm meaning both 1/4" imperial and 6mm metric shank router bits can be used in the extension. The extension body has been precision machined from a single piece of high-quality steel which has been computer balanced to minimize vibrations to ensure the extension and therefore router bit will run perfectly true. This collet extension is designed to be used in a woodworking router table or with some form of router jig or extended base. It's not recommended to use these extensions in a handheld woodworking router because of the added forces applied to the bit and router itself. This router collet extension works in any ½″ router collet to extend your ½″ and ¼″ shank router bits. This is where a router collet extension becomes extremely handy. The router collet extension allows you to extend the reach of your router bit without sacrificing safety. There are a lot of projects that demand an extra deep reach from the router bit. As a rule you want to have at least ⅞″ of the shank in the collet, or as much as possible without letting the woodworking router bit bottom out. In some situations, installing the router bit properly into router doesn't offer enough reach for a certain task.

A router collet extension is perfect to use when an increased height of router bits is needed on router tables, routing jigs or router bases. This extension gives 50mm of additional height and allows you to easily change router bits above your router table. Simply insert the extension into your 1/4" router, then insert the router bit into the ER16 collet and secure it by tightening the collet nut using the supplied spanner.
