There are several different types of paint brush bristles available, and the type you choose will depend on the paint you are using and the finish you want to achieve. Types of bristles include:

Dust sheets: these are used to cover furniture and floors to protect them from paint drips. They’re available in reusable, washable materials or disposable polythene. Yes, you can wash out paint rollers and reuse them multiple times, especially if you buy a good quality paint roller that has much more durability than a cheap roller sleeve. Q. How many paint rollers do I need? Acrylic varnishes are usually water-based. They offer very high transparency levels and don’t go yellow. They are easier to clean up and don’t give off fumes, but don’t tend to penetrate the wood as well as oil-based products. They feature good UV-resistance and dust resistance, and are often used by artists to seal and protect paintings, sometimes with specialultraviolet light resistors to protect the paint against light. Marine varnish Sand between varnish coats with extra fine-grit sandpaper (440-grit) to increase the adhesion between coats and get a smooth finish. Don’t sand the final varnish coat as you will remove the glossy and protective topcoat. roller - also known as mini-rollers, 4" rollers are for tight areas or detailed painting such as interior trim or furniture

Synthetic filaments are bristles made from synthetic materials such as nylon or perlon. The fibres are designed to reduce the risk of tramlines appearing in the paint. Some synthetic bristles are suitable for all types of paint and varnishes, while others are only suitable for water-based paints. Apply as many more coats as you need, generally 2 to 3 coats is the norm, but additional coats can be applied for greater depth of finish, gently sanding in between each coat. Don’t sand your last-but-one or final coat, and go with the grain for the final coat for a super-smooth finish Wait until one coat dries before applying the next one. Water-based varnish takes around 6 hours to dry between coats, and oil-based varnish takes around 24 hours to dry for a re-coat. The length of the hair also matters. Short-pile rollers are ideal to apply emulsions to smooth plaster walls, either new or previously painted. A long pile roller performs better on a rough or textured wall.

Floor varnish enhances the natural colour and grain of wooden floors Wood varnish guide How to varnish wood?Shellac used to be the most popular wood finish on the planet until polyurethane came along, a much more durable, heat and chemical-resistant material with a longer shelf life. These days, since it is compatible with most other finishes, Shellac is often used as a barrier or primer to prevent wood stains from blotching. It’s a major ingredient in Mohair sleeves usually have short hair and are ideal for painting new walls and ceilings. The best paint to use with these rollers is an acrylic emulsion although most wall paints are compatible with mohair sleeves. Medium pile paint rollers have a pile that's around 10-12mm in length. They're designed to apply paint onto lightly textured surfaces such as Artex ceilings, although they can be used for smooth surfaces. The length of the pile means they can get into the nooks and crannies found on textured surfaces. Rollers for emulsion paints and multipurpose rollers can come in a medium pile option.
