What I found is Terkeurst passion is to put us at the feet of the Jesus but I am not sure about the cross. Instead, as the political journalists Gabriel Pogrund and Patrick Maguire put it, “an era collapsed around them”.

There is a friendship to her writing that is winsome and that I found myself drawn to and I am sure many others have been drawn in the same way. Left Out by Gabriel Pogrund and Patrick Maguire benefited from there being no shortage of odd, dull-witted and downright shitty behaviour from Labour officials and elected representatives over the last few years. To some of his supporters, Corbyn’s stubborn and defiant responses to this unfolding disaster may have looked commendably principled, but they deepened the mire. The book’s detailed accounts of tension, fallings-out and the ingrained fondness for factional warfare on all sides of the Labour party often rock along.

Instead, they give ample space to both sides, adding only the necessary factual context to allow readers to make up their own minds. The Banana-Leaf Ball promotes discussions on resilience, the power of play, unity, overcoming adversity, finding common ground, and reducing isolation. Driven by love and a desire to lift a curse, Kai embarks on a heroic journey to save the Snow Prince from a crumbling ice palace. However, a supportive Muslim teacher provides Bilal with a book about Bilal Ibn Rabah, a historical figure who also wrestled with his identity, providing him with much-needed comfort and affirmation. Terkeurst takes us on a journey on how we can address the rejection that we have experienced and experience God's presence.

I probably should have just known she was going to try to tackle all this from the subtitle of the book, but I went into this book thinking the topic was "rejection" because I heard Terkheurst speak about it before I picked it up. This isn't some casual afternoon read, this book provokes thought and requires time to soak it all in.It reveals a party at war with itself, and puts the reader in the room as tensions boil over, sworn enemies forge unlikely alliances and lifelong friendships are tested to breaking point. Many Christian women authors today seem to want to use our depravity to make sure we know we're not alone and almost make us feel okay about our feelings, however ungodly they may be. They also provide a safe space for children to explore their feelings and discuss the topic in a supportive environment.
