Painting individual bits was proving fiddly, we all live and learn, the next jeep has resin stowage in blocks so these will be painted before main assembly. Might be worth remembering that in those day the Regiments was not universally popular with the Staff so supply of kit and weapons was problematic. I am thinking of adding it to a mini diorama, similar to the one I made for the kubelwagen, but with a desert theme.

While waiting for those items to arrive I took a moment to modify the smaller M2 MG that came with the die-cast and turned it into a M1919 30 cal MG. Also if one was used in europe, got a case of tin worm, got repainted and shipped to Africa then you would get corrosion wouldn’t you? The other one (complete with soft top made from paperclips and tissue paper ) is meant to be a rollover.The smudges of yellow ochre will be blended in with dust, as my finest brush got into the chubby hands of a 3 year old relative who proceeded to completely destroy it. Actually, the uniforms style on both my figures reflect more of what was used from the north Mediterranean and Europe instead of the desert, but did see some photos with a similar uniform in the sand though very rare, right?

I tried to keep the chips to realistic places , more heavily at the front and where the crews would put their boots. First was the driver, after assembling the legs with lower torso I had to heat and bend them to fit the seat, steering shaft, and floorboard. The hose connecting the tank to the radiator overflow line was bent to shape, attached, and painted.Being R/H, the right-hand eye was not to bad to do (unless, and this happened a lot, I'd get the shakes as my hand got closer to the figure ). The very brief rainy season would produce huge amounts of surface rust for a short time but then disappear almost overnight. This was going to test my patience, all the jerry can handles had to be fitted and being flimsy resin were a nightmare to attach, most wanted to stick to my tweezers and several were broken in transit.
