Description

Limonene is a chemical added to change the smell to stop solvent abuse or remove the strong smell so its more friendly to children.

I had a roll of "blue painters tape" that I got in the dollar store on my bench. The tape has a rough texture on it, so it has some "grip". So I cut a small piece and wrapped it around the glue bottle cap....

I just opened the bottle and a small plastic O-ring seal fell out of the cap in three pieces...broken. If this O-ring has been broken for the past three months and not sealing the cap, then the glue would have evaporated and now has lost it's "bonding" properties...? Does this sound reasonable? According to the contents it also contains acetone. Plumbers that I have worked with used it for waste pipes

If you leave the glued parts alone long enough before handling them again, the bond is very strong and it is in fact almost impossible to cleanly separate them again. This is due to the fact that the cement essentially melts the plastic and the parts fuse together once the chemicals evaporate. As you would probably expect, there are differences in the chemical compounds used to produce these two types of cement. The Tamiya Extra Thin Cement 40ml is widely reknowned throughout the world as the best product to glue together plastic model kits that use polystyrene plastic. The extra thin formula allows the modeller to glue together small pieces that require pin point accuracy and finesse using the fine brush included. Tamiya offer a great range of paints, glues and modelling accessories that are available both online and in store. Mixed them and tried them firstly to join some plastic pipe and then to fix together some kit parts.Capillary action will cause the cement to run between the two parts and the cement will partially melt the plastic and fuse the parts together. and Mr. Hobby Mr.Cement something with the help, I took this advice ...in results, now I have 1 liter "Tamiya Extra Thin Cement" my own manufacturing! 😉 😁 😎 Like its earlier counter part, it stinks to high heaven due to the solvent levels. Prolonged use does give headaches so that has to be factored in when using it.

However there is a simple solution. I am your saviour Mark. I will let you into the secret. It is called ---- no no not yet. I've used MEK before with excellent results - that's just MEK with no Acetone admixture. It's pretty volatile so good ventilation is a must. In the past, when I was young and daft, I've even used it to attach canopies with no problems If you did, you could use their airbrush cleaner instead, which contains the same solvents in an almost identical ratio. When I got it, the first thing I did was open the cap and take a sniff... NOTHING. No fumes or smell at all. WOW! And non-flammable to boot!Perhaps I was wrong in buying this and should have gotten the green bottle of regular Tamiya extra thin instead.
