Description

His second Hellcat follows one of the famous US Navy scheme options which will be included in the kit and presents the aircraft as it prepares to be launched against the latest Japanese air attack.

aluminium wire and the thicker from 2mm both sheathed with shrink tubing and dunked in boiling water for a few seconds then shaped and fitted. The whole cockpit assembly went into the port half of the fuselage as sweet as a nut, then came the other side! This model took me almost exactly a year to build, which is normal for my past efforts, including not much modeling during the summer months, which here in Canada isn’t very long. Modeling in 1/24 scale does need to be one-off - there is a visible overall trend towards larger models.

The fit was extremely tight in places and I used clamps to make sure everything was seated where it needed to be. Sometimes people don't like the look but the modeler did a stellar job of simulating a real plane or ship or car. Now I have seen a 1/24 F6F-5 from Airfix, I say again- why can't someone give us that amount of detail and features (wingfold option main interest) in 1/32? The cockpit is very well detailed, including some electrical wiring, plumbing, and structural parts. We have the Hasegawa 1/32 F6F with soft detail (for the age of the kit- it is pretty good), and a Trumpeter 1/32 "F6F" with a wacky extra wide fuselage.I seem to remember it leaving a residue and being difficult to remove if you didn't want to use it anymore. The Hellcat was as tough as they come and would often be required to land, rearm and refuel, before immediately taking off on another sortie, often with a different pilot behind the controls. There were some ejector pin marks that needed to be removed, especially one on either side of the rear cockpit walls as well as a couple in the rear fuselage. in terms of preshading, my observation has been that the camera doesn't pick up the contrast real well. The engine is in and plumbed, I'm getting a new camera in the next couple of days so holding off on new photos till I can have a go with that.

I find I have a lot of time on my hands just now as we/I am house-bound due to the current situation. The phographs contained herein have been taken at the 2018 Scale Modelworld and show a full set of 9 greay plastic sprues, sans the clear sprue which will be added as the 10th item in the box. I wanted one wing folded with flaps up, and the other wing extended with flaps down and gun bays open.In a feature positively bristling with exclusive imagery, we go back to the very start of this project to bring you early development details, comments from the project designer responsible for producing the Hellcat and an impressive series of beautiful Hellcat build images, which are being published for the very first time and will only serve to raise our excitement levels about the impending release of this stunning kit. This will allow us enough time to ensure the winner receives their kit in advance of the coordinated worldwide release of the Hellcat and certainly before anyone else has the chance to get their hands on it. Trying to get clamps to sit where you want them on an aerodynamic surface tests the patience somewhat. Desperate to ensure their new aircraft was a significant improvement on their rugged little fighter and an aircraft squadron pilots could operate effectively without too much additional conversion training, they enlisted the help of some of the US Navy’s most accomplished combat pilots, asking them what they wanted from the new fighter.
