Description

Along with the new streaming box, Netgem has released the new Netgem 4K streaming platform with a brand new layout. Instead of organizing content by each app or platform, content is now organized by relevance and genre.

Netgem, a company based in France, has two operation models in the UK – first, customers can buy its Netgem Netbox 4K as a standalone Freeview box. Setting up the Netbox is quite easy. Once you connect it to your aerial and turn it on for the first time, it will immediately offer to scan for Freeview channels. One point to consider is the news that the BBC expect all their channels to be available via the internet within 10 years, allowing linear and time shifting (on demand) viewing. hours of included content, with 25 Freeview Play catch-up services such as ITVX& BBC iPlayer, and access to a library of included shows and movies such as YouTube, TikTok, Filmzie and Wedomovies. The TV features of the Soundbox are the same as the Netbox 4K, with the omission of 4K capabilities. Customers signing up to a Netgem subscription will receive Freeview Play as standard alongside some premium sports and TV Player channels. Once you have some programmes recorded, you can find them in the “Recordings” section on the main menu, where you can also manage and delete stuff you already watched. Then you're probably more suited to streaming-only entertainment, so you may want to consider the best streaming devicesinstead. They're easy to use, cheap and perfect for instant entertainment.

Best of all, recording television is free. You are not tethered to subscriptions service, where you lose access to your favourite shows once the billing stops. Can you record on a smart TV? Customers may prefer this shorter deal, but others may not want to be tied to a contract at all and would rather buy the box outright. The problem then becomes the fact that premium content is missing from the box, removing one of the main attractions of Netgem TV. Netgem TV is an interesting proposition for customers, offering a budget subscription service that puts Freeview, some premium channels and plenty of on-demand content together in one place at a much lower price point than we see with traditional pay TV services like Sky TV or Virgin Media TV. While the recording capability is a nice addition (the Manhattan T3 Freeview Player, for example, can’t record at all), it’s quite limited. It comes with a remote control, featuring a handy button for Freeview Play, which immediately open the app when pressed, meaning you don’t have to trawl through the menu to find what you want to watch.

Black Friday deals on TV recorders

Customers will need to supply their own USB with a minimum capacity of 32GB and then record to that from the box. Any recordings will then be accessible through the menus. It bundles a Freeview receiver with a smart TV service, offering access to a range of on-demand and catch-up apps including BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All4, My5, YouTube, and subscription-based services like Netflix, Disney Plus, and Prime Video. But for people who don’t want the added work of knowing what each app/service has to offer, and just want to base their watching decisions on content instead of a service – these recommendations can be helpful.
