This series includes the 1-channel iRig PRO and the 2-channel iRig PRO DUO. Both are battery powered and support an optional power supply that also charges iOS devices, and they feature up to 24-bit/96kHz for professional-standard recording. Combo inputs accommodate mic-, line-, and instrument-level signals, and the preamps include switchable phantom power for condenser microphones. On top of that, iRig PRO series interfaces provide MIDI I/O, making them among the least expensive and most versatile iOS interfaces on the market. The acoustic properties of the microphone then depends on the mechanic properties of the cantilever (mass, elasticity) exactly like a microphone diaphragm. Requires expensive tools to achieve best performance (high quality microphones, high quality preamps) Though components found in almost all products can be found somewhere on the cheap or approximated in some capacity via DIY, and as stated above "connected to an Arduino", there's a lot more going on with iRig Acoustic Stage than a simple microphone connected to a simple audio circuit.

In brief you have more surface in all the leaves of a tree than on a carpet of the size of the same tree. That's why the tree are that way... to capture the most light. MEMS are made with the same idea. As for the sound, well it really is rather nice. Before the audiophiles chip in and point out that a MEMS microphone will never beat a high end condenser or ribbon mic, no, of course it won't. It's not one of those things and it's not trying to be. But it is still remarkably clean, open, natural and airy for such a small device. Certainly far FAR more natural sounding than a piezo option. In fact, I would suspect that if you played to someone blindfold that most would not be able to tell you were not playing into a regular microphone. The mini cable connecting the microphone to the unit is however extremely thin and I think great care will need to be taken with that over time to ensure it doesn't break. It really is super thin. Saying that, the zippered hard case is excellent quality so as long as you look after your gear and put it away properly after use, you shouldn't have any issues. Still, in the process of putting it away twice as part of this review, I still managed to get it very tangled! I do wonder how this would stand up to regular gigging use. Working musicians tend to want their gear bombproof. This will create a similar resonance to what you're hearing from most acoustic guitar preamps, which are usually positioned near the left or right of the soundhole. It'll also capture the most complete sound from your acoustic guitar that is possible from a mic at a single location. IK Multimedia recommends the Acoustic Stage MEMS microphone be placed at the bottom (pictured below). Step up to the iRig Stomp I/O, and you’re in an entirely different league. This 24-bit/96kHz digital powerhouse features four multifunction footswitches and an expression pedal, giving you advanced real-time control of the AmpliTube app and desktop software. What’s more, the iRig Stomp I/O lives up to its name, including stereo line inputs, a combo mic/instrument preamp, two external footswitch inputs, and MIDI I/O. IK Multimedia’s latest gizmo aims to give you a studio-quality guitar sound on stage with the minimum of hassle. My point was that MEMS are cheap because as any Integrated Circuits made in asiatic clean rooms/fabs they can be mass produced. And They are mass produced because they serve (and serve well) in all kind of applications.

Please follow these steps to setup your device on Windows. Please note that there are interfaces that may not work properly with the below steps: While these two models are great for practicing and performing live, guitarists who want to record to their mobile devices typically prefer the iRig HD 2. The iRig HD 2 swaps out the analog cable for a 24-bit/96kHz digital connection via Lightning for your iOS device or USB for your computer. What’s more, Android users can also benefit from the AmpliTube app, thanks to the iRig UA model. Finally, the section that you’re probably most interested in, how does iRig Acoustic Stage sound (particularly in comparison ot traditional methods of amplifying/recording your acoustic guitar)? This is all fine and dandy and the iRAS is nearly ideal for live conveniences, but the system’s tone isn’t as balanced and smooth as nice condenser mic in the studio. That is until I realized, oddly enough, that the iRAS comes shipped calibrated ideally for nylon string guitar via the “Nylon” settings, but the other settings are calibrated for non-guitar instruments! But wait, there’s more … the calibration process is very easy (you play barre chords on various frets), it takes a mere minute to do and yields substantial results. Once calibrated, my Taylor dreadnaught sounded much fuller and smoother; a far better tone for live use and one I could now use in-studio. It gets even better … you can re-calibrate with different strum intensities for different results AND the “Natural/Warm/Bright” settings affect your custom calibration, too. Why stop with audio-related products when there are so many great virtual instrument apps out there — including IK Multimedia’s own SampleTank, Syntronik, and various piano apps? To answer this, IK Multimedia introduced several iRig Keys keyboard controller models. The original iRig Keys gives mobile songwriters and players a simple, lightweight keyboard, while the expanded iRig Keys Pro adds the mod and pitch wheels that are essential to keyboardists. Going even further, iRig Keys I/O models borrow additional triggers from the iRig Pads pad controller while adding single-channel audio interface (including a preamp with phantom power) to the mix. All iRig Keys models are fully cross-platform compatible and include killer virtual instruments.

Note: It is suggested to install the Offline Settings option. This will allow you to adjust your ASIO4ALL settings before launching your audio software. The iRig Acoustic Stage works by clipping a small, specialized microphone to the sound port of your acoustic guitar. It will also work with any other instrument that has a sound port like a classical guitar, acoustic bass, ukulele, etc. You’ve already got an acoustic you love and now you can easily add a high performance clip on microphone with a dedicated preamp. I suspect iRig will be known to a few of my readers as the people behind the digital interface for connecting an audio output from a ukulele (or guitar) and plugging it into a tablet or smartphone for recording in an app. It's produced by IK Multimedia, an Italian based company that make a wide range of music production and recording gizmos.
