I never consider the scent to be a big part off the actually rating when I would review a shaving soap. Because for me its more about the performance and value from a shaving soap. Mäurer & Wirtz used to offer an even better alternative: SIR Irisch Moos shaving soap had a slightly “greener” (as the name suggests) but much subtler fragrance and the same formidable performance features. However, the shaving soap was discontinued some years ago and the fragrance only survived as an after shave. I’d judge it as a male equivalent of what you might call an “elderly (not quite old) old lady perfume”. On scent, the Palmolive has less potential to offend. Personally I don't mind the scent of Arko, but wouldn't want to use it every day. Palmolive would be a bit boring for daily use TBH.

It is my understanding that it is distribution to the UK which is being discontinued and that it will continue to be made in Germany and sold on the continent. Is it stronger than most? Probably. “Slam you in the face” strong? reviewer needs to get a grip. I happen to really like this very traditional scent and as noted later in the review, the scent does dissipate rapidly. The reviewer doesn’t seem to be a fan of traditional scents. He could have simply stated the scent is strong and left it at that.

Palmolive wins IMHO..it performs well, extremely cheap and the scent, though perhaps a little boring (if you're a frag head or mad on scents) is inoffensive and clean smelling.
