Wieliczka Salt Mine is also worth a visit. It is possible to get to the mine either by bus or car, but you can also choose one of the guided tours running several times a day from Krakow center and directly to the mine. Tours are arranged with guides in different languages, so be sure to get a seat on a trip in a language you understand. HostelPass– This new card gives you up to 20% off hostels throughout Europe. Sometimes an organized group can get some free samples of new tastes. The guided tours are the best way to get this experience. We provide you an English- speaking guide too. From the Krakow Airport, there is a convenient airport train that goes to the main station for 14 PLN and runs every half hour. There is also a slightly cheaper city bus for 6 PLN (included in the KrakowCard). The journey takes just under an hour.

Jagiellonian University’s Botanical Garden is an 18th-century garden near the Old Town. Spanning 24 acres, this is the oldest botanical garden in the country (it was founded in 1783). It’s home to over 5,000 species of trees, shrubs, orchids, and other flowers. The garden is only open from April-October and makes for a nice place to go for a summer stroll. Admission is 15 PLN. 11. Get a KrakowCard 1-, 2- or 3-day pass that gives entry to almost 40 of the Kraków's fantastic attractions and unlimited use of the city's bus and tram network. The best (and most popular) time to visit Krakow is during the summer (June to August). Temperatures are hot and rain is infrequent with daily highs around 23°C (75°F). These are also the busiest months of the year for tourism, though and you’ll only really notice it in the Old Town and at some of the larger attractions.

This museum has been consistently ranked as one of the best in the world. Opened in 1964, it’s situated at the former Kraków-Rakowice-Czyzyny Airport (which is no longer in operation). There are over 200 aircraft on display here, including 22 extremely rare planes that were evacuated from a museum in Germany during World War II (so they didn’t get bombed by the Allies). There are lots of interactive displays and insightful exhibits, making this a fun place for kids and adults alike. Admission is 27 PLN and there is free entry on Tuesdays. 12. Get Your Game on at the Krakow Pinball Museum ATM skimming can occur here, so always make sure you use verified ATMs. If you can, go into the bank to withdraw your money (as opposed to using outdoor ATMs that are easier to tamper with). When you walk around in Krakow, there are plenty of opportunities to find venues in the city. Often you are handed leaflets offering Chopin piano concertos or jazz concerts that take place at smaller venues.World Nomads offers simple and flexible travel insurance. Buy at home or while traveling and claim online from anywhere in the world. Solo travelers (including solo female travelers) should find the city quite safe. However, you’ll still want to make sure you take the standard precautions when you’re out exploring (don’t accept drinks from strangers, don’t walk home alone at night while intoxicated, etc.).

Krakow’s food scene is constantly evolving and expanding, with a growing number of ethnic cuisines turning up alongside traditional Polish restaurants. The Old Town has the biggest and broadest choice of restaurants, from simple canteens to upmarket restaurants in sumptuous surroundings under vaulted ceilings. Be sure to try the city’s most famous dish, pierogi — moreish dumplings filled with meat, mushrooms, cheese or potato. Jama Michalika and Milkbar Tomasza in the Old Town are good bets for pierogi and other hearty Polish dishes. There is a lot to see and do in Kraków. This four-day schedule includes many key attractions, focusing on the Old Town, a day trip to either Auschwitz or the Wieliczka Saltmines, the ‘socialist realist’ area of Nowa Huta, as well as the Kazimierz and Podgórze districts. There is no risk of any real natural disasters or terrorism in Krakow, so as long as you pay attention to your surroundings and follow the tips above you should be able to have a fun and safe trip. Popular among pilgrims, John Paul Tour features places that shaped pope John Paul II. This Krakow tour covers pope’s hometown of Wadowice with a museum established in his family house and Kalwaria Zebrzydowska where he often prayed as a young cleric. It ends in Divine Mercy Sanctuary in Lagiewniki, major shrine of Faustina Kowalska, canonised by the pope. During this tour, our knowledgeable and English- speaking driver tell you all interesting facts from the life of Karol Wojtyla. For confectionery gourmets, in this town they also serve the best cream cake in Poland.Travel Insurance: World Nomads offers simple and flexible travel insurance. Claim online anywhere in the world. When the Austrians tore down the fortifications that had encircled Krakow until the 19th century, locals turned this ring into Planty, an inviting public park. It’s topped with the 14th-century St Florian’s Gate and the hulking 15th-century Barbican, and is filled with neat gardens along with a statue commemorating one of Krakow’s most famous sons, Pope John Paul II. Located in Jagiellonian University, the Collegium Maius (Latin for “Great College”) has been a scientific hub for research and discovery for centuries. The building dates to the 14th century and taught many famous scientists, including Copernicus (the famous Polish astronomer who argued that Earth rotated around the sun and not vice versa). The museum has a vast collection of historic scientific instruments and artifacts, including maps, globes, tools, paintings, and more. Hour-long guided tours cost 15 PLN, though you can do a self-guided tour on Wednesdays for free between 1:30-4pm. 9. Walk around the Planty An excellent way to see Kraków’s Old Town is to follow the royal coronation route from Floriańska Gate to the castle and cathedral on Wawel Hall. In fact, most of Poland’s regal ancestors are also buried there in the royal crypts. I can recommend this informative guide to the Wawel Royal Apartments.

There are also scooter share programs like Hulaj that cost 2 PLN to start and then 0.55 PLN per minute after that. If you rent a car, don’t leave any valuables in it at night. Break-ins are rare but it’s always better to be safe than sorry! When you’re standing on Wawel Hill, you may notice lump-like green hills surrounding Kraków. The origins of Kraków Mounds are lost in the mists of time, but it’s believed that the oldest – Kopiec Krakusa and Wandy – were built by pagan tribes several millennia ago as part of some solar calendar: during the summer solstice, the sun rises at Wandy and sets at Krakusa. Kopiec Kościuszki is a newer mound, completed in 1823 to commemorate a fallen Polish general. Catch bus 100 to the mound for fantastic views of Wawel Castle, St Mary’s Basilica and Główny Rynek. 14. Spend your night out finding a “lost bar”

Auschwitz-Birkenau Concentration Camps

Flights to Kraków: Find the cheapest flights to Kraków and flight times from scores of airlines with 12go. Kraków is an excellent city for shopping and souvenirs, especially as prices can be remarkably low. You’ll find the same brands as in other European countries, but the real fun is in exploring the shops for uniquely Polish specialities. Although originating in the Baltic regions to the north of Poland, Kraków became an important centre for amber due to its location on the Vistula river, the main trading route for the precious material. There are amber shops all over the city, full of beautiful and imaginative items crafted from fossilised tree sap. Be sure to pre-game– Krakow is known for its partying, pub crawls, and long nights out. Start off by grabbing your favorite drinks from a grocery store first whenever possible. You’ll save a ton that way.
