Reviews

A good idea that needs editing, “Life Skills for Kids”, by Karen Harris, is written for 8-12 year olds and the graphics look like they are targeted for the younger ended of the range. They are cute enough but sadly, there is no, (or maybe 1?), representation of multi racial or differently abled kids to be found. The vocabulary is geared for older kids. While I applaud the inclusion of definitions for unfamiliar words and concepts, they often include unknown items or those things being defined. Additionally, the grammar is really rough and in the 2nd sentences of the book’s first paragraph in chapter 1, there is an error, (“Here’s are an example.” - text and punctuation), that should be corrected ASAP, at least in the Kindle copy I reviewed.

Another reviewer learned just as much as their kids: “I looked through it when it came in the mail and almost kept it for myself. lol There’s a ton of extremely useful life skills information for young adults. Things that we as parents don’t really think about ‘teaching’ our children. I suggest that all parents get this 100% useful book for your teenager before they venture out into the world.” for images that are not described. It will also extract texts that are embedded within the image, using an OCR (optical character recognition) technology.

Self-regulation in early childhood leads to strong academic performance, helps students form healthy friendships, and gives them the social and emotional resources they need to face high-stress situations throughout life. The book takes you through everything you need to know about using self-regulation principles during circle time, in literacy and math instruction, and during gross motor and outdoor play. Each chapter includes a solid research base as well as practical, developmentally-appropriate games, songs, and strategies that you can easily incorporate in your own classroom. With Stop, Think, Act, you’ll be prepared to integrate self-regulation into every aspect of the school day. While the internet provides a wealth of knowledge, it can be overwhelming to navigate at times. I mean, which of the thirteen articles about budgeting and saving money is actually accurate? And yes, you can ask your parents or other trusted adults in your life to teach you specific skills, but sometimes you just want to figure it out on your own. That’s where this guide comes into play.Setting out a year-long curriculum based programme for education and youth professionals, this book provides a challenging and engaging workshop-based approach to developing school engagement and ambitions in young people aged 11-18. The programme, which is informed by CBT, helps professionals to understand barriers to young people's school engagement and learning. It outlines a case for a practical, well-rounded curriculum that readies students for life post-education through eight core themes, including 'believing in me', 'money matters' and 'business basics'. The second part of the book is a photocopiable manual for use in classroom settings, making this an essential, hands-on manual for nurturing young people's life skills. Author Karen Harris has created an invaluable guide for teenage girls who are facing entering adulthood and the challenges that step presents. This excellent guidebook provides much needed information on how to learn many skills and become more self-sufficient. To date her books include LIFE SKILLS FOR TEENS, LIFE SKILLS FOR KIDS, and now LIFE SKILLS FOR TEENAGE GIRLS.
