As I shut the door, I notice marks in the wood. Long thin lines running down the length of the door at about the level of my shoulder. I run my fingers over the indentations. They almost seem like… Scratches. Like somebody was scraping at the door.” The Housemaid is one of my favourite books. It was such a challenge to write but I'm really proud of how it turned out. I can't wait to share it with you all and I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed writing it! McFadden said of the news: “I am so grateful to all the readers who helped make The Housemaid a success and I’m incredibly excited to see how the Hidden Pictures team will bring my book to life.”

The stately home plays a big part in this story. The images were so vivid in my head as the author really brings it to life. You’ve got to love a house with a history and we keep learning more about what dark secrets it holds. With it being an old house, there are also lots of secret passageways which gave the whole feel of the story an even more edgier feel. In her late twenties, she lived in Port Townsend, Washington, where she had her first child and became a single mother who worked maid service jobs to support her family. [8] [9] Although she did not grow up in poverty, she spent the next several years living below the poverty line and relied on several welfare programs to cover necessary expenses; this later inspired her writing on issues of poverty and public policy. [10] [11] In January 2008, Land broke up with her boyfriend and moved to a homeless shelter with her then nine-month-old daughter. [2] Land and her eldest daughter occasionally lived in homeless shelters, transitional housing and a camper in a driveway, before securing an apartment in low-income housing. The first line of her debut book reads: "My daughter learned to walk in a homeless shelter." [12] The Housemaid by Freida McFadden is a riveting and unconventional psychological thriller, constantly keeping us guessing about the true intentions of the main characters, subverting our expectations masterfully at every turn, and taking us on a wild ride into the heart of a home corrupted by evil.Maid' author Stephanie Land on what it feels like to be shamed for being poor". Washington Post. ISSN 0190-8286 . Retrieved March 9, 2022. The Maid is elegant, warm-hearted and wry, and Molly the most winningly off-beat narrator since Eleanor Oliphant. An absolute joy’ Louise Candlish Honestly, it took me awhile to get into this book. I thought it was going to be the cliché maid falls for the lord of the manor and they have a torrid, steamy affair troupe. And it felt very much like that for the first half of the book.

Book Genre: Adult, Contemporary, Crime, Fiction, Mystery, Mystery Thriller, Psychological Thriller, Suspense, Thriller Though he might be relegated to more of a secondary role with no chapters dedicated to him, Andrew Winchester still remains an integral piece of the puzzle, and his presence in the story is often used to maximum effect. As a matter of fact, I’d say he too is a main character, adding another layer of complexity to the dynamics between the inhabitants of the house. Each of the character introduced seems like they have a big mystery hidden with them. Everything makes the reading quite fun and interesting. It makes you feel like a big reveal is going to happen anytime and you cannot afford to miss any of it. It is at this point that, sadly, the book begins to disappoint. There is a sequence of events which I found difficult to follow, and which required Molly to act a part which I would not have thought she was capable of playing, but which resulted in Rodney being arrested and charged with the murder, and the charges against Molly being withdrawn. But I soon realise I've made a mistake. The strict housekeeper, Mrs Huxley, watches my every move, emerging from the shadows when least expected. Lord Howard's son, Alex, takes an interest in me, and as a former addict, I find myself drawn to him because I know he's bad for me.You can read now read AIDEN'S STORY, a short story and sequel to SILENT CHILD.
