I wasn't too excited about the beginning of the story because it jumped around from present to the past. I do wish I saw a bit more of Lee’s charming side, just so I can understand how Catherine could have fallen so hard, and how her friends could have been so won over. Four years later, Lee is behind bars and Catherine—now Cathy—compulsively checks the locks and doors in her apartment, trusting no one. All her friends think she has gone to the States so Lee has a perfect opportunity to keep her locked up and no one will look for her. It is seamlessly put together and the clever juxtaposition of chapters from the present and the past keeps the reader on the edge of their seat.

I kept wishing that he wouldn’t turn out to have some hidden agenda, that he really is as nice a guy as he seems.
