Description

At the core, every business is fundamentally a collection of five Interdependent processes, each of which flows into the next: The point of an MBA, traditionally, was not for a 19 or 20 year old to `train' to be a manager (whatever that means) but for a middle-manager to train to be a leader in his current company. An ideal situation would be to get a job (any job) with a great company and work your way up, and eventually have your boss pay for your education. The company will consider the investment in human capital worth it if they see potential in you, and will also have you promise to stay with the company for at least a few years upon graduation, so they can benefit from their investment. First 1/3 part of this audio book is mostly a waste of time. It's a very basic overview of some complicated tasks you'll meet in business live. Business Book Synopsis: Inspirational books like Change Your Questions, Change Your Life by Marilee G. Adams doesn’t inspire you in a rah rah kinda way. It delves deep into rewiring your mindset. This entrepreneur book breaks down the difference between a Judger and a Learner mindset. A judger one is often filled with thoughts like ‘What’s wrong with me?’ and ‘Who can I blame?’ but a learner mindset is all about asking questions like ‘What can I learn from this?’ and ‘What’s possible?’ Of course, if you’re knee deep in negative it can be hard to make a sudden switch. But this book helps you transition into a positive mindset by shifting the questions you ask yourself. And it really does work!

Management - The Personal MBA Management - The Personal MBA

The first hour of the audiobook is setting the scene, with a variety of weak arguments about why an MBA is a waste of time and money, but giving absolutely no evidence that the Author's approach (of just reading lots of books without going to school) isn't also a waste of time and slightly less money. One of the primary fallacies of effective management is that it makes learning unnecessary. This mindset assumes your initial plan should be 100% perfect and followed to the letter. What did you like best about The Personal MBA: Master the Art of Business? What did you like least? When two engineers get into an argument about whether to use one big Flash SSD drive or several small SSD drives, do you really think the CEO is going to know better than the two line engineers, who have just spent three days arguing and researching and testing? [...] This style of management practice is not the command-and-control style of management most people think of when they hear the term. On TV and in most management literature, managers are high status executives who spend most of their time telling other people what to do and making important decisions. In practice, those behaviors are telltale signs of poor management.

Much has been made in business schools about "scientific management" and the need for highly educated, professionally trained managers. In reality, you can't learn to be a competent manager in a classroom-beyond a few simple principles, it's a skill best learned through experience.

The Personal MBA distills the most valuable business lessons into simple, memorable mental models that can be applied to real-world challenges. Why you should read business books like this: Eric Ries’ book offers great actionable insights for entrepreneurs. For example, in his book he writes, “The only way to win is to learn faster than anyone else.” However, he emphasizes action with “Reading is good, action is better.” The best way for an entrepreneur to learn isn’t by reading business books it’s by trying things out. Thus, making it a great read for entrepreneurs who hide behind books instead of diving into their business. The book has case studies throughout creating an easy read while teaching readers valuable lessons. I liked it's clear structure, which had impact and purpose. Lots of example stories and case studies also make this a book worth getting. Why it’s a great business book: This is one of the most influential business books on dealing with people. Mega-billionaire Warren Buffett was so greatly influenced by Dale Carnegie’s book that he even signed up for one of his public speaking courses. The book contains numerous nuggets of information to help make you a better leader, listener, and relationship builder. It’s one of those books that you should re-read throughout your career and the author even recommends re-reading it. It contains many quotable moments such as “You can make more friends in two months by becoming interested in other people than you can in two years by trying to get other people interested in you.” If you implement the concepts from business books like this, you’ll create a more enthusiastic team, improve customer service, and more. 2. Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill Constantly measure your performance across a small set of Key Performance Indicators -if what you're doing doesn't appear to be working, Experiment with another approach.

Management is a unique skill that requires discipline, patience, clear communication, and a commitment to keeping everyone working together without unnecessary distractions. The Personal MBA 10th Anniversary Edition - Penguin Random House The Personal MBA 10th Anniversary Edition - Penguin Random House

Only reason I gave it a 4 star was the completely unnecessary and relevant beginning which goes on much much much too long about how useless a regular MBA is. Skip this, it adds nothing to the content. So for anyone who didn't graduate in Economics of Business, this book is a great summary of the definitions and concepts that took us about 4 years to get through. And it's pretty much the same material (minus countless case studies and Powerpoint presentations) you'd get from top-tier business programs.Education is great. If I didn't believe that, I sure wouldn't have started a blog about it. But so is avoiding foolish six-figure debt. Consult your boss, and consult this book before proceeding. Why you’ll love this business ebook: Most marketing books share a general overview in the ways you can market your business. But no one ever shares the exact marketing strategies and tactics you need to do to win in business. This isn’t the type of ebook where you’ll learn you should market on Facebook or some other platform. This is the type of ebook where you’ll learn the exact tactics within Facebook marketing you should be exploring. You’ll also discover what other online businesses are doing differently within the whole realm of marketing. You’ll also get to read some pretty great advice from successful marketers and entrepreneurs. No other marketer would ever share this many secrets – business books don’t get better than this . 9.
