There may be enough budget to cover the two episodes of underwater menace but I’m doubtful it would stretch to say the four episodes of wheel in space. A couple of surviving clips from Episode 4 are included, along with some 8mm colour films from actor Frazer Hines and director Gerald Blake, providing a unique glimpse behind the scenes. And those soundtracks, and older fans’ memories, both suggest Abominable Snowmen is one of Patrick Troughton’s best Doctor Who stories. Most of the movement involves going in and out of rooms or leaving the monastery, wandering around the mountainside and coming back again. All of this has inevitably raised the anticipation for a potential animated reconstruction of The Abominable Snowmen, at long last shuffling its way onto fans’ DVD and Blu-ray shelves from BBC Studios.

We’re delighted to announce Doctor Who: The Abominable Snowmen, something Doctor Who fans have been waiting patiently for over the years. One of the big surprises of revisiting Troughton’s time on Doctor Who is the way the show could slide into pantomime, particularly in some of the performances of the supporting cast, and there’s no doubt that the scenes that I found terrifying as a child now have a “look-out-behind-you” quality that comes with the series surfing the camp zeitgeist of the 1960s. The release gives fans the opportunity to enjoy the six new fully animated presentations of this lost classic, which will be released alongside the one surviving segment episode two.But when he steps out of the TARDIS wearing a big, brown, furry overcoat, 20th-century monks mistake him for a murderous Yeti, and attack him!

To be honest, this element shows the limitations of this way of understanding Doctor Who’s production. The highlight of perhaps the entire set is Troughton in Tibet: The Making of The Abominable Snowmen, which details the behind the scenes of the story through a mix of new and archive interviews.

Doctor Who The Abominable Snowmen SynopsisIn the 17th century, an old Tibetan friend of the Doctor’s reached out and touched the mind of an alien disembodied energy, known only as the Great Intelligence, giving it a conduit to Earth. Certain items can take longer to source than the estimated week, particularly during busy trading periods and may take longer to arrive at our warehouse. The greatest issue is undoubtedly the pacing: it’s a fairly formulaic tale, featuring quite a bit of back-and-forth, with some slow and plodding dialogue scenes.

Russell Minton, Executive Producer of The Abominable Snowmen, spoke about the project, saying, “We’re delighted to announce Doctor Who: The Abominable Snowmen, something Doctor Who fans have been waiting patiently for over the years. This helps unify the various textures and designs, a pleasure after the spaceship interior in Galaxy 4, which seemed to me decorated by an explosion in an MFI showroom. The Doctor must convince the monks that not only is he not their enemy, but the real foe –and the power controlling the Yeti –is living amongst them. The Abominable Snowmen will be released in 2022 on DVD, Blu-ray and as an exclusive Steelbook this year, filling another gap in missing Doctor Who episodes. The cover art and special features of the animated version of the missing Doctor Who adventure, releasing on DVD, Blu-Ray and Steelbook on 5th September 2022, have been revealed. It’s difficult not to wonder if the full story – albeit in animated form – can hold up to its reputation, strengthened by its one surviving episode, an action figure set and an atmospheric Target novelisation by the late, great Terrance Dicks. My copy is fine and I don’t think I’ve seen anybody else complain about it so I think it’s either your disc or possibly your player needing an firmware update (if it does updates) .

This is Doctor Who’s first on screen encounter with Buddhists, the second being 1974’s Jon Pertwee’s send-off, Planet of the Spiders. The animation is a step-up from Fury, although very much in the same style, and does a good job at reimagining the story’s visuals to look much more impressive. Doctor Who: The Abominable Snowmen originally transmitted in 1967, and the six-part story featured the first appearances of monster the Yeti and the villainous Great Intelligence. In the 17th century, an old Tibetan friend of the Doctor's reached out and touched the mind of an alien disembodied energy, giving it a conduit to Earth. Starring Patrick Troughton, Deborah Watling, Frazer Hines, Wolfe Morris, Norman Jones and Jack Watling.Lovely tourist board advert for Snowdonia in North Wales makes me want to put on some hiking boots and a pack and head out there myself if just for location spotting. The animation was enjoyable for 2D and i love the realistic and more expansive backgrounds which is a really nice mix. The attackers are actually robot servants of an alien intelligence that has taken possession of the monastery’s spiritual leader.
