Roca Silver is ultimately a fairly subtle and understated tequila. While it’s not very complex, it doesn’t seem to be designed to be. Roca Silver Tequila is all about presenting agave in a way that’s decidedly light, dry, and delicate. It’s a radical departure from Patron’s classic Silver, but that’s not a bad thing. With Roca Silver, Patron has produced something that is clearly designed to be sipped neat or over ice and exist in a similar space as Casamigos and perhaps even Casa Dragones Tequila. My journey has seen me as an owner of sophisticated bars and renowned liquor shops, and even as a Mezcal distiller, honing the craft from scratch.

Patrón unveils latest ultra-premium Ahumado Tequila range

A Glencairn lets you appreciate the rich aromas of Scotch whisky, and quality Tequilas deserve the same treatment. Can you freeze Patrón Tequila? Here, I’m not just sharing opinions; I’m weaving tales from the rich tapestry of my experiences over these three decades. PATRÓN is made from only the finest, highest-quality Weber Blue Agave, which gives it its characteristic smoothness and layers of flavor. The agave is stripped to reveal the heart of the plant, the ‘piña’, which is then hand-chopped, baked and crushed by a two-ton volcanic stone Tahona wheel and a roller mill. The resulting mixture is fermented for three days, distilled and, in some cases, aged in handmade barrels. Two months at minimum for PATRÓN Reposado, over 12 months for PATRÓN Añejo, and at least three years for PATRÓN Extra Añejo. It’s no secret that we have a steadfast commitment to crafting the world’s finest tequila, but we’re just as dedicated to taking care of the resources and people that make it possible. At PATRÓN, we’ve always been committed to doing our part to preserve the environment and support our people and the community in our birthplace and hometown of Atotonilco el Alto in Jalisco, Mexico. Following the advertising strategy of Grey Goose, Patrón presented its tequila as "premium" and signaled "taste and sophistication" through individually-numbered glass bottles. The target audience is mostly vodka drinkers in nightclubs and trendy bars. Through persistent references by country music and hip hop singers, and by Lil Jon in particular, Patrón has become a fixture of popular culture. [3]Responding to this shift, Patron has begun to more openly discuss how they make their tequila, and part of that conversation is Roca Patron. Since its inception, Patron Tequila has been made from a blend of agave that is crushed by the traditional Tahona process (which includes the agave fibers in both the fermentation and distillation) and agave which has been crushed through a roller mill (a more industrialized process where the agave fibers are not included in the fermentation and distillation). Each of these styles of crushing, fermentation, and distillation yields a tequila with distinct character. The traditional Patron tequila represents a marriage of these two styles. Tequila used to be made with something called the ancient Tahona process, wherein heartless tequila distillers force a donkey to drag a massive volcanic stone over agave hearts prior to cooking and distilling them. (We assume that donkey hates his life.) Patrón still goes old-school, although they give the donkeys a break and use machinery to drag massive, specially sculpted stones across their agave hearts, yielding a unique vegetal taste that they then mix with a portion of citrusy tequila made with the modern Roller Mill method. You have one guy to thank for that smooth, smooth balance. The two new serves were handcrafted with Tequila and Mezcal enthusiasts in mind, Patrón has said in a press release. They have been distilled using 100% Weber Blue Agave and an innovative production process. The Patrón Spirits Company was launched in 1989 by John Paul DeJoria, who went from homeless to billionaire and Martin Crowley. The bottle’s larger liquid surface area can hasten the oxidation process, leading to an unpleasant taste.

In January 2018, Patrón was sold toBacardi, the world’s largest privately held spirits company. Where is it produced? Like everyone’s favorite, and inevitable ex-girlfriend, Patrón was born in 1989. We don’t know how many celebrity hearts it’s broken, or whether it and Jake Gyllenhaal are still on good terms, but the brand, like Swift, has likely led to more than a few tales of heartbreak. Patrón production is surprisingly old-school. In case you need to feel worse about your career trajectory, or seek new reasons to believe in your dreams, you can always remind yourself that Patrón co-founder John Paul DeJoria once worked as a janitor. Did we mention he’s now friends with Dirty Harry? Yeah, he’s doing all right. It’s Mexican tequila, but the label’s a shout-out to the U.S. Navy. Proper storage of Tequila involves keeping it in a cool, dark place, shielded from direct sunlight. To maintain the best flavor, storing Tequila properly and consuming open bottles within a reasonable time frame is essential. What does Patron mean? To avoid this, consuming an open bottle within one or two years is recommended, mainly when the liquid is 25% or less. Yes, there is a sprawling, gorgeous Hacienda Patrón, home to the distillery and La Casona, a year-old private guesthouse that kind of looks like the residence of a James Bond villain. But Patrón actually prides itself on moderation. According to the company, a mere 60 hands go into the production of every bottle (which is actually a small number considering production levels), and a mere “ eight families provide 80 to 95%” of Patrón’s agave plants. Patrón is kind of like Bordeaux. Varieties include a tequila- coffee blend known as Patrón XO Cafe, a tequila-chocolate-coffee blend known as Patrón XO Cafe Dark Cocoa, and an orange liqueur known as Patrón Citrónge. [5]

The late Francisco Alcaraz was the Master Distiller and blender running the show behind the scenes. PATRÓN tequila is passionately handcrafted with meticulous precision and care in the same small batches and with the same commitment to quality and craftsmanship by our familia of bold innovators who maintain a tireless dedication to achieve perfection in every drop. Dan Aykroyd was importing Patron Tequila to Canada but didn’t own a dime of the company. Who owns Patron? Traditionally, Patron hasn’t been big on discussing how they produce their tequila. In 2010, Drink Spirits was the first to report of Patron’s Green Initiatives, one the most progressive in Mexico. Even though they are a leader in sustainable tequila production, Patron rarely trumpets it. A spirit company being understated about how they make their products might have been fine in 2010, but with more information-hungry Millennials reaching drinking age in 2014, the marketplace has shifted and so has the demand for information. Overall, they are overpriced and offer little value for the money, making Patron a competent but far from great Tequila brand. Patron Tequila: Buying Guide We drink a ton of it. We blame poor choices on it because Jamie Foxx said that was cool. But what do we really know about the industry-transforming, surprisingly hands-on behemoth tequila brand that is Patrón? Here are 11 things you might not know about that iconic squat bottle. It’s the step-cousin of your leave-in conditioner.Co-founder Martin Crowley designed the logo, which — and we seriously never noticed this — has a hornet on the label. That’s because before he got heavy into tequila, Crowley served in the Navy on the massive USS Hornet aircraft carrier. It’s a mega brand with some unexpectedly small-business vibes. Patron started as a contract brand as it was distilled at the Siete Leguas Distillery until 2002 when they opened their state-of-the-art facility in the Mexican state of Jalisco.
