Description

The film has a much more theatrical look and feel to it with grain being all but eliminated, increased color bandwidth and improved detail. Although it falls a tad on the loud side, the DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack for this third slasher flick is still fairly entertaining, offering some fun jump scares. For more about Scream 2 4K and the Scream 2 4K Blu-ray release, see Scream 2 4K Blu-ray Review published by Martin Liebman on October 1, 2022 where this Blu-ray release scored 4. Halloween is still several months away, but it’s never too early to start planning for the spooky season. Disappointments sadly still abound – no new extras and the inclusion of the old 2011 blu-ray disc instead of putting the new transfer on the accompanying 1080p disc – but while it chafes, the release should still be rightly celebrated for its technical achievements.

The heart and soul of the series is Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell), but she has inexplicably been moved to the background and is living alone in the woods, troubled by really creepy visions and nightmares.

Fingers crossed that SCREAM 4 will also join the 4K treatment, and we hope the rights can be transferred to Paramount.

To quote a character from the movie, “It’s the trilogy that all rules are off and anyone can get it! Second time around does this new iteration of the Scream franchise no favours at all, with this just released 4K disc from Paramount going out of its way to remind you exactly what’s so wrong with the film itself. As with the previous two installments, Scream 3 has its share of fight scenes that usually result in someone’s death.

Scream movies took all that we had learned by watching these low-budget movies in the 80’s and applied different rules that all of them had in common. Note: but disappointingly again, the accompanying 1080p disc is the exact same disc from 2011 as previously released – it does not have this new transfer on it, instead lazily repacking the same old hideously digital looking transfer we’ve been desperately trying to get way from for years. And unlike all the other previous entries, this one has folded back in on itself and become solely about those previous entries.
