When she started talking to Sylvia and she tried to let her know that she believed her I just didn’t care about Sylvia. I really enjoyed reading about her struggle to overcome the PTSD and OCD that was triggered by this this horrible man. I read it all rather quickly, though I think it would have been better if Catherine was a more compelling character to begin with. Alternating chapters take us back to the past, four years ago and we slowly witness the events that brought Cathy to this point in her life.As their relationship goes on that good side disappears completely and she’s filled with fear and anxiety. Into the Darkest Corner is also really empowering and gives hope and courage for women who experienced it. The plot of this book certainly intrigued me but I’m always cautious with thrillers because most end up being predictable or over hyped. I have been sat on my couch since finishing this book about 30 minutes ago running everything through my head, processing what has just happened to me.

Into the Darkest Corner is a gripping read and an important and powerful book: I couldn’t put it down once I’d started it. You see, the biggest issue I had with this book is how the first half—excluding the first two chapters—is boring.

While that obviously isn’t going to be for everyone, I appreciated how the author didn’t sugarcoat it in any way. Nothing special, just average girl, living her life, working and having fun with her friends, meating a guy.She has given us a tour de force début novel that is both creepily disturbing and yet beautifully rendered. It also includes the story four years after, showing the damage done to Cathy which has left her isolated, suffering from OCD and post traumatic stress.
