In 2005, Dam licensed the trolls to DIC Entertainment as Trollz. With this, the licensing campaign saw the troll dolls being pushed towards young girls, featuring products such as fashion dolls and fashion accessories. [14] The campaign failed and eventually lead into a lawsuit.Nurgling Green: Nurgling Green is a bright, vibrant green color that can be used to create a striking contrast with Troll Slayer Orange. As a complementary colour to orange, it can be used to create a sense of visual tension on the miniature, and it can be used to paint the details of the miniature, like eyes, lenses, or gems. Despite its commercial success, there was still much criticism towards the movie upon its release, often being compared to Sony Pictures Animation's two The Smurfs animated films released at the time; one of the common cited advantage that the movie over them had was less Canon from its source material to rely upon. The cast was noted by Forbes reviewer Luke Y. Thompson to be one that would not appeal to the target demographic, but a wider "hipper" audience. He said that the movie was badly timed with Doctor Strange being released at the same time. years later, an adult Poppy organizes a gigantic party to celebrate the anniversary of their escape. A serious, gray, survivalist troll named Branch warns that this could expose their home, but everyone ignores him. His forewarnings are realized when Chef locates the Trolls' vibrant, loud, and visible party, kidnapping Poppy's friends, including her secret crush, a " zen" troll named Creek. While the rest of the Trolls take refuge in Branch's survival bunker, who reluctantly permits them to do so, Poppy sets off alone to rescue her friends. She gets herself into several potentially deadly situations and is finally rescued by Branch, who thinks her quest is hopeless and reluctantly follows her only to escape his crowded bunker.

The movie was praised for its trippy experience and excellent setting. The Bergens were compared as being a cross between Gargamel from The Smurfs and the Blue Meanies from Yellow Submarine, while the Trolls were seen as Prozac that the Bergens popped to feel better. The film's world was described as "reassuring" and "unsettling". Story-wise, it was described as following the typical plot formula that DreamWorks was criticized for constantly using during the 2000s, but with a few twists. [23]Trolls “ have to get their stomach pumped ” if they eat onions; plants in the Allium family such as onions contain sulfoxides and aliphatic sulfides which are toxic to many non-human animals on Earth. [1] Society and culture [ ] Main article: Alternia Satin and Chenille are twin Trolls (joined at the hair) who are experts on all things fashion, from haute couture runways to the latest street style. The main character of the movie was decided upon being named "Poppy" after the color "poppy pink". Originally, they went for a more 1980s-style of character design, but rejected it for a more ugly-cute style as it gave more distinction in character design. As Poppy's design changed, so did the general style of the Trolls themselves, and each version of Poppy caused a different art direction. A number of artists produced designs for the concept of Poppy. Timothy Lamb's art style was chosen as the overall look. Other artists included Craig Kellman, who did a number of character studies, and Sebastian Piquet, who made color concepts, including one of Poppy's dress designs of which seemed to have been used for her appearance in Trolls: The Beat Goes On!. Priscilla Wong also did the costume that would be her royal attire in the original party scene, which would have been Poppy's coronation. Poppy had a number of dress designs which were used for a scene removed from the film. She was even at one stage considered for having a gem, but it was removed. At one point, Poppy was even supposed to be naked, but this was dropped. Trolls (2016)". Rotten Tomatoes. Fandango Media. Archived from the original on February 26, 2021 . Retrieved May 23, 2019.
