Stephen has taken a look at The Films of Doris Wishman: The Twilight Years on Blu-ray from AGFA, Something Weird, and Vinegar Syndrome, a three-disc set that includes seven exploitation films that Wishman directed between 1970 and 1977. New York City; the Battle to end all Battles. The last remaining Immortals gather together to fight to the death: decapitation alone can kill them, and the victor alone can lay claim to “The Prize”. Amongst the contestants is Connor MacLeod (Christopher Lambert), who fought his first Battle in 1536 on the highlands of Scotland, swordsman Ramirez (Sean Connery) who mentored MacLeod and taught him the ways of the Immortals, and the evil and brutal barbarian Victor Kurgan (Clancy Brown). Russell Mulcahy’s music video writ large starring a Scot pretending to be a Spanish Egyptian and a Swiss Frenchman pretending to be a Scot transcends every part of its subjectively flawed DNA to become and remain an all-time classic. This was my first visit into the world of Highlander and while I felt it’s one of those films that everyone has heard about, unless you grew up in a certain era, it was more doubtful whether you’ve seen it. I had a faint recollection of the movie through older siblings and so to mark the 30 th Anniversary of Russell Mulcahy‘s cult favourite, I entered the all-new 4k restoration for the Blu-ray and DVD release.

And while we still have little in the way of official announcements at the moment, I can confidently report that at least some of titles you’re waiting for are on the way in 2020. STUDIOCANAL is thrilled to announce that the iconic cult classic, HIGHLANDER , will soon be available to own on 4K UHD for the very first time. The film will receive its home entertainment release via STUDIOCANAL in the UK, France, Australia and New Zealand. Based on a new restoration done by StudioCanal, the disc will feature Dolby Vision HDR and HDR10 high dynamic range, along with 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio surround sound. Stephen has turned in his thoughts on Gaspar Noe’s intriguing and doubly-experimental Lux Aeterna (2019) on Blu-ray from Yellow Veil Pictures via Vinegar Syndrome.Absolutely amazing. 4K picture quality is far better than any blu ray release I've seen. Some people don't like the artwork on the steelbook but I love it. Featuring an unforgettable original score by Michael Kamen and Queen, HIGHLANDER went on to inspire four further sequels and a television series.

All right, folks. This will be our last post until Wednesday next week, as it’s not only the long Labor Day weekend here in the States but by wife and I are also celebrating our thirty-second wedding anniversary. I didn't mind Queen when I Highlander was a new film, but eventually realized how needy their songs are "Somebody to Love", "My Best Friend" However, I’ve been on the phone a lot in the last couple of days talking with industry sources, and we’ve got some great new Blu-ray and especially 4K catalog updates for you this afternoon.At one point, Mulcahy himself perfectly encapsulates the mindset which drove the film. Speaking of the difficulty in casting the lead he explains how he finally saw a photo of Lambert from the film Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes. He immediately knew that that was the look he wanted. When someone pointed out that Christopher Lambert didn’t actually speak any English, Mulcahy replied “I guess we’ll work that out”. Who cared? The guy looked right.
