Using this once a week has changed as that. Four minutes per leg. with minimal to no discomfort. Treating at a steady pace I don’t forget where I’ve treated and the heat doesn’t build up so it’s not sore. At most some minimal discomfort but again that’s if I rushed it. The skin sensor will stop the device if it’s not safe to flash any area because the skin tone is too dark or it’s not laying flat enough That’s not as fast as Smoothskin suggest. This is likely because, as our testers found, awkward and bony areas slow you down a bit. Also, the flash rate slowed a bit after a few minutes too. That’s because the Bare+ heats up and needs a little longer to recharge in-between flashes.

This product was tested on two people, male and female, for a six week period. Six weeks equates to six sessions (once per week) and is half the recommended treatment according to the included pamphlet. SmoothSkin Bare+ uses intense pulsed light (IPL) to zap the hair follicle. I’ve been using their hair remover light treatment for the past 13 weeks. It’s honestly been a game changer for me I’m 47 years old and I never realised how much of a burden, shaving or waxing my legs was. Smoothskin say you can treat a whole body (full legs, bikini line and underarms) in less than 10 minutes. However, realistically it can take between 10 to 20 minutes. That’s because you must slow down to zap uneven or awkward surfaces. Or just have a bit of a breather. Zap a full leg in 4 +minutes with the Smoothskin Bare. They say it’s ultrafast. It is. It’s perfect for a busy lifestyle.

Very pleased that IPL does work on slowing the growth of hair. Smoothskin Bare Plus’ IPL tool feels very premium and is nearly fool proof on use. The device won’t flash if its not flush against your skin. This also makes it very challenging around your ankles where you can’t get the flash head flush with your skin without experimenting with weird angles. I do wish that it came with some kind of carrying case and a pair of sunglasses because the flash is still very bright against your skin. I would recommend this to all my friends and family. The only issue you might run into is treating small areas such as toes or small wrists. The device won't fire until the unit senses skin covering the entire lip of the flash point. So some readjusting is required until the device gives you the go-ahead LED signal. Other than that small issue, for sure a great easy option for hair removal.

If you’re over 40, you’ll know what I mean. This WILL work on those stubborn hairs (as long as they’re not white) but ooh, shaving first? I can’t do it. Overall, I think it’s working and I plan to keep using it once a week and will extend it to my lower legs as well. So far, it’s 5 stars and I do recommend giving this little device a try! If it’s in budget and you’re happy to trade higher intensity levels for more but-very-fast treatments, then the speed and simplicity suits you well You may not see any change after the first few sessions. Then your hair grows slower, softer, finer and lighter too. For most this is noticeable between 4 and 6 weeks.

The legs are by far the easiest place to treat as you can hold the button down and glide it along larger areas. Whereas, with the underarms, it is slightly fiddlier to try and get it flat on the skin. So, Smoothskin recommends doing a stamp motion to treat those smaller areas of skin. The Bare only flashes when your skin fully covers the skin tone sensors. This protects your eyes by preventing accidental flashes directed into the open air near your eyes. Do two side-by-side flashes (3 cm x 2 cm) on freshly shaven and clean skin. If after 24 hours you experience no reactions, you can continue with your full treatment. Shave it! While the fact it’s corded may bother some, the fact that it’s not going to run out of batteries is a bonus. Also, note that the whole thing is VERY bright when on. You will want to look away. Take the safety precautions in the manual serious! (Including the stuff about not using it on tattoos/darkly pigmented places.) And there are no controls or dials. So, with just the flash activation button in the centre, it’s inviting and familiar. Before you startIt's cleared for use on the whole body — underarms, legs, bikini line, and even face — and all you have to do is press a single button to activate it, so it's super simple to use. The directions advise to use it on clean skin and that all visible hair should be removed through shaving prior to treating the area — this is very different from professional laser hair removal, which requires there to be short, visible stubble on the area. You can hold down the button and do the glide method to further increase the speed of the process once you get comfortable on the flash frequency. Overall, after 7+ weeks of use on the legs, its noticeably less and almost nonexistent stubble and actual manual shave is less and less needed.
