You could feel the sense of expectation. It was really happening right here, on an altar full of candlelight, prayers and a glow of gold. The abbey was like being inside a jewel box. Her previous work includes the wedding of the then-Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in 2011 and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in 2018. A range of musical styles and performers blend tradition, heritage and ceremony with new musical voices of today, reflecting The King’s life-long love and support of music and the arts. Decca Classics is thrilled to announce that The Official Album of the Coronation of Their Majesties King Charles III & Queen Camilla is now available. Music by much-loved English composers Byrd, Handel, Elgar, Walton, Parry, Vaughan Williams and Sir Henry Walford Davies has historically featured at coronations over the past four centuries, and was included in the service.

coronation What music will feature at His Majesty the King’s coronation

We haven’t had the best history after that little war”, he joked, referring to the American Revolution, “but people still like the history. The theatre of it, the pomp and the circumstance.” The ceremony will feature a range of musical styles and performers, blending tradition, heritage and ceremony with the new musical voices of today to reflect the King's life-long support of music and the arts. We have the technology to eliminate any extraneous noise. The abbey is so reverberant and it’s a gorgeous sound that we do want to capture. When the Archbishop of Canterbury places the crown on the King's head at 12 noon, trumpets will sound, accompanied by gun salutes. Concert in Windsor Park Marking an unprecedented event in both recorded music and British royal history, this album becomes the fastest recording of its size, with the full process, from performance to release, taking place over the course of a single day.At the request of His Majesty, in tribute to his late father His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, Greek Orthodox music will also feature in the Service performed by the Byzantine Chant Ensemble. There is no doubt that the coronation ceremony in London's Westminster Abbeywill be a solemn affair, with music befitting the occasion. His Majesty The King has personally commissioned the new music and shaped and selected the musical programme for the Service. A small group of singers from The Monteverdi Choir also joined the main choral ensemble for the service.

Coronation | The Royal Family The Coronation | The Royal Family

This was history in the making - and you had to pinch yourself to think you were seeing it close-up, inside Westminster Abbey. In another first for the coronation, Wiseman’s two-part composition, featured a gospel choir, the first time this kind of ensemble has performed at the historic royal event. The day after the coronation ceremony, the royal family hosts a big concert event in the garden of Windsor Castle, featuring live music from pop stars like Lionel Richie and Katy Perry, both ambassadors for various of the king's foundations and charities. Some 20,000 guests have been invited. The service commences with a majestic performance of I was glad by Hubert Parry, a favourite composer of the monarch’s, written for the coronation of his great-great-grandfather King Edward VII in 1901. Hearing it in the context for which it was intended adds that extra frisson to the performance, for who could not be thrilled by the cries of ‘Vivat Regina Camilla!, Vivat Rex Carolus!’, sung full-throttle by the King’s Scholars of Westminster School? Handel’s Zadok the Priest is similarly charged: the Old Testament anointing of Solomon would have been sung in Latin at the first English Coronation of King Edgar at Bath in 973AD. Conductor Sir John Eliot Gardiner led The Monteverdi Choir and English Baroque soloists in a pre-service programme of choral music. All Coronation Services are a mixture of deep-rooted tradition and contemporary innovation. As was the case in the four twentieth-century Coronations, the choice of music reflects the cultural breadth of the age in which we live. Coronations have taken place in Westminster Abbey since 1066. It has been a privilege to collaborate with His Majesty in choosing fine musicians and accessible, communicative music for this great occasion. Sir Antonio Pappano (Music Director, Royal Opera House & Conductor of the Coronation Orchestra) said:
