Description

Their Majesties sat in the Throne Chairs for the Enthroning and the Homage. These chairs were made for the Coronation of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth (later known as The Queen Mother) in 1937.

Featuring nearly 4,000 personnel, this major military ceremonial operation was the largest of its kind since the 1953 Coronation of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. On May 6th, the Colour Party will replicate that same presence they have held in the Abbey for centuries of monarchs. The Colour bears The King’s cypher ensigned with the Crown. In the four corners are the national badges of the United Kingdom, each ensigned with the Crown. It is made of heavily gold embroidered and tasselled silk, and is much larger than other Regimental Colours, at over 6 feet square. The pole is topped by a large silver gilt crown, presented to the Regiment by King William IV. The King’s Colour Squadron of the Royal Air ForcePetit, Stephanie. The King’s Company Colour, the Royal Standard of the Grenadier Guards, is carried only when the Regiment is employed on ceremonial duties in the presence of His Majesty. The Colour is the personal gift of The Sovereign, presented only once in each reign, and is laid at the feet of Sovereigns who have passed, upon their catafalques. This Supertunica was made in 1911 for the Coronation of King George V by Wilkinson and Son, Robe-makers and Tailors. The Supertunica has subsequently also been worn by King George VI at his Coronation in 1937 and by Queen Elizabeth II in 1953. As part of the Crown Jewels, the crown is kept under armed guard in the Jewel House at the Tower of London.

The connection of the Sovereign to the Company is a close one beyond the public ceremonial. The Captain will update the Sovereign regularly on the Company’s activities and operational commitments. The Captain's Statement In 1656 the exiled King Charles II issued the first Colour bearing his Cypher to The King’s Own Company. Shot to pieces

About the designer

Authorities had warned against any attempts to disrupt the day's proceedings. There were reports that some protesters had planned to try to do just that, interfering with the processions, according to U.K. Deputy Prime Minister Oliver Dowden. He said the government had received intelligence that some people might try to spook horses on the procession route by sounding rape alarms. This Medal is a symbol of the critical role our emergency services will play in this potentially once in a lifetime opportunity to honour our new King. However, it rightly also goes further and recognises not just those who are helping at the Coronation, but the heroes across our emergency services, such as the police, fire and rescue services, that go to work every day to protect and support us all.
