At the heart of it, these two products from two competing brands run on the same working principle and employ the same basic design. The length of the Looftlighter allows you to light charcoal (or wood) without gloves on. With some imitators, or with a standard heat gun, your hand may be dangerously close to the fire or coals. It’s important to understand that the Looftlighter is a faster, fuel-free way to start a charcoal fire. The Looftlighter works in the exact same way as the Eggniter, turning electric energy into heat energy and using that heat energy to light up the charcoal. There’s also a battery release button, but that’s a mechanical function, so I won’t include that as a ‘button.’ For example, if you’re always lighting paper and kindling, you should get 10 starts easily. But, if you’re working with larger pieces of wood or charcoal, you will get 3 or 4, particularly if it’s cold or there’s any moisture present. The Looftlighter and Eggniter can both be often found on sales and discounts but those are subject to availability. Under regular conditions, the Eggniter is around 30% cheaper than the Looftlighter.In my experience, the angular handle is definitely superior as with sustained use you may even develop a cramp in your wrist with the 180-degree handle of the Looftlighter. Neither of these issues changes anything functionally though and you can keep on using the Eggniter with a slightly discolored or melted head shield so they are not huge problems. If you think about how small a gas lighter and a few lighter cubes are compared to this, it rather takes away from it being ‘portable.’ Resting it on the stand will protect the heat shield from damage, and protect the surface it’s resting on from the heat.
