While you might be thinking, “This has been done before,” where the GNARBOX transcends what’s on the market is with its portability and on-board features, making it possible to travel without a laptop and still work on files.

Inside, the Gnarbox uses 128GB of flash memory and 2GB of RAM. Transfer speeds are comparable to a laptop, with read speeds up to 270MB per second and write speeds up to 100MB/s. We both went to music school together, and she is friends with my wife, and they were in a band together," Cody said, referring to Hevr. "And I just wanted to make scary movies for a long time. And during the pandemic, we both had not a lot of stuff going on. And so she reached out and was like, 'Do you want to make a scary movie?' And I was like, 'Yes!'"Apple regularly removes old software from their app store, while simultaneously creating a monopoly in which you can't install software from anywhere else. I bought the GB2 soon after launch. It has been a vital part of my workflow for stills and video ever since. The company have supported it very well with excellent firmware updates that substantially improved its functionality

While there’s an option to not ingest already uploaded images (found that after this mistake), I wish there was a notification that would pop up when the card is fully loaded and ready to ingest. I think an app might be the way to go. Phones and cameras are starting to appear with USB 3.0 (I should say reappear, but with the Type-C port) so an app that copies over images and catalogs them properly would be the solution going forward.

So, how well does the RAW processor work? Unfortunately, it is not great, not anywhere close to what you can do with many other editing tools out there, even on phones / tablets. After playing with one RAW file for a little bit, here is what I was able to achieve: Top photo shows person inserting/removing an SD card in pouring rain, just about the stupidest thing you could do, and virtually guaranteed to corrupt the card. Not much point in having a weather-sealed SSD if you corrupt the card while inserting it! That’s understandable, since the camera is very new and RAW support will probably arrive later on. When I initially saw the thumbnails, I knew that Gnarbox was reading the embedded JPEG images within the RAW file and if the software was able to actually allow me to edit the RAW file, it would most likely mean that only embedded JPEG images were being processed. The fact that the RAW file did not load means that Gnarbox is actually using a real RAW converter to work with the RAW data, which is nice. For now, I just connect my MS Surface tablet , which is basically a computer) to the camera and copy files that way, but I don't always carry (or like to carry) the tablet around.

It's by far our most ambitious project yet with the most people involved," Cody said. "More shooting dates, more special effect shots, and gags because that's the stuff that I want to do. I wanted to do lots of blood squirts and guts and blood and whatnot. ... But we want to do a proof of concept for a feature. And I think it'd be cool to do a kid anthology similar to Goosebumps or Are You Afraid of the Dark? still looking for a rugged RAID1 solution (out on the road for N weeks and this dies with all my data! still a single point of failure). Put 2x SSD in an enclosure One of the most important features of Gnarbox, is the ability to edit video footage all the way to 4K. Having recently traveled to New Zealand, I was able to capture a bunch of footage of different places using the DJI Mavic Air drone, so I thought it would be a good idea to see what I could get out of the Gnarbox when doing editing of 4K footage. From my point of view the key is the ability to cull/rate raw images/videos with your phone/tablet on the field, saving tons of time and avoiding carrying a laptop. The LAMBOGO drive has built-in WiFi with speeds of up to 900 MB/s. Users can review shots over their phone, and share that connection with multiple devices. The Skull Crawlers Movie Club is a great example of all of this. Comprised of Indigenous Oklahoma filmmakers, the team puts together impressive indie short productions that have reached festival and online audiences far and wide. When do Photographers's life become more & more pressed? Do we have to plan the session, manage light, shooting hundreds per day before editing it (almost) instanteneously despite resting in harsh environment? As detailed in our original coverage, Gnarbox 2.0 SSD is a rugged storage solution that works hand-in-hand with a collection of apps to make it easy to import, sort, edit and export multimedia content while on the go. Its well suited to last through an all-day shoot, and it can even be used as a power bank to charge your phone or other USB powered tools. Design and durability Let’s have a look at my workflow, including a couple of workarounds for the times things don’t go to plan.
