If like me you have a little trouble with the pressure cooker, may sure that you have the pressure release valve closed before you start. In the past, I have had this open and then struggled to work out why it was not coming up to pressure. Just make sure you take care when releasing the pressure, it is hot! You may find that your pressure cooker lid has its own natural pressure release function at the end of cooking time, just read your manual. Gammon is sold as a raw joint, but it is known as ham or boiled bacon once cooked. You can read more about the differences here. Why Slow Cook Gammon? Your slow cooker can help you reheat the ham. Place cooked ham slices in a slow cooker on low along with some additional liquid—more ginger ale will do, but you can add broth, barbecue sauce, hoisin sauce, orange juice or apple cider. Cook until heated through.

Slow cooker gammon in coke might sound like a strange recipe but trust me, it’s delicious! The sweetness of the cola perfectly balances the saltiness of the ham, making a tasty, tender joint of meat. This smoked gammon in cider doesn't require many ingredients but each one really adds to the finished ham.Put the split peas in a sieve and rinse under cold water. Tip into the slow cooker pot with the vegetables and add the water and mixed herbs. Season with lots of pepper and stir well. One of the best things about cooking gammon in the slow cooker is that not many ingredients are needed. Gammon Joint

You will find that both ways cook the ham to perfection, it is just about how much or how little time you have. In the coming weeks, I am going to share a slow cooker ham that is cooked in a cooking liquid of diet cola. I know it sounds weird but trust me, it is amazing and perfect for those who want to leave it with a longer cooking time, it slow cooks and a simple glaze with this easy recipe. If you are short on time, this pressure cooker recipe is ready in little time and the cooking process is painless. The size can vary, we have used a small 1.3kg round joint in this recipe, which is available all year around. Score the fat into a diagonal criss-cross pattern with a sharp knife. The ham can now be chilled for up to two days, or you can bake it straight away. Once cooked, remove it from the slow cooker pot and cover it with foil. Allow it to rest for at least 20 minutes before carving. Preheat the oven to 220C/200C Fan/Gas 7. Very carefully, snip off the string and slide a knife, in a horizontal sawing motion, between the ham rind and fat, then lift off the rind, leaving a thin layer of fat on the meat. (You may need to do this in strips.) Get your kids to measure out the honey, mustard and cinnamon into a small bowl and then mix it together.
